Sunday marks the first Rome derby of the season as Lazio face Roma at the Stadio Olimpico. Here is all you need to know about one of the most notorious matches in Italian football.
The first Derby della Capitale of the season takes place on Sunday 12th November, 2023.
The pair will meet again on the weekend of Saturday 6th April, 2024.
Sunday's first Serie A Derby della Capitale of the season is set to kick off at 17:00.
Roma and Lazio famously share the venue for all Serie A editions of the Derby della Capitale, as they both play their home games at the Stadio Olimpico.
Roma lead the head-to-head standings in official matches with 67 wins, while Lazio have won 50 games.
There have also been 63 draws between the two sides.
The first official contest came on 8th December 1929, when Roma defeated Lazio by a 1-0 scoreline, with Rodolfo Volk the scorer.
Lazio won the most recent meeting in April 2023, with Mattia Zaccagni scoring the only goal in an ill-tempered affair which produced three red cards.
Two players have scored 11 times in this fixture. Unsurprisingly, given his two decades of service to Roma, Francesco Totti is one of them, scoring his first goal against Lazio in November 1998. His last goals came in a 2-2 draw in January 2015 when he scored twice. He celebrated by grabbing his phone and taking a selfie of him and the jubilant crowd.
Dino da Costa, who passed away at the age of 89 in November 2020, is the other player to have netted 11 times when pulling on the famous Roma shirt.
Silvio Piola has scored seven times in the derby, with his playing career mainly taking place in the 1930s. He was part of the Italy squad that won the 1938 World Cup.
Lazio striker Ciro Immobile is just one goal behind Piola, having netted in four league meetings and two cup clashes.
In all, 21 players have represented both Lazio and Roma at some stage in their career.
Spanish winger Pedro is the only player to have represented both teams who could feature on Sunday, having joined Lazio from Roma in 2021.
