Derby County striker turns down deadline day transfer

Derby County striker Lars-Jorgen Salvesen has turned down the opportunity to leave the club on transfer deadline day.

The Norwegian striker arrived at Pride Park in January 2025 but he only found the net three times in 31 appearances last season.

Salvesen stepped off the bench to score Derby's second goal against Portsmouth on Tuesday evening as the Rams won 2-0 to pick up their first Championship win of the new season.

It was a much-needed response for a Derby side that suffered a 3-0 home defeat to Swansea City at the weekend.

The 30-year-old has been linked with a move away from the East Midlands over the last few weeks.

Despite interest from a number of clubs, Salvesen is eager to prove his worth at Derby and manager John Eustace revealed after the match that he had an offer to leave before the closing of the transfer window.

"There has been lots going on and off the field with Lars over the last few weeks," said Eustace.

"There have been opportunities for him to go on loan and today there was an opportunity where he could have left but didn't.

"That's why I didn't start him really. I felt he was excellent considering he didn't even know if this was going to be home yet for him."
