Dave Allen's heavyweight options 'plentiful' after explosive Johnny Fisher TKO

Boxing News' Rob Tebbutt feels Dave Allen will have his pick of numerous heavyweight contenders as he plots his boxing route on the back of comprehensively beating Johnny Fisher at the weekend.

The hugely popular Yorkshireman produced a barnstorming finish to secure the biggest victory of his career on Saturday night, stopping the previously unbeaten prospect, Fisher, in brutal fashion at London's Copper Box Arena.

The result was a hugely emphatic, especially given Allen had come up controversially short in their first meeting on the undercard of Oleksandr Usyk v Tyson Fury 2 in December.

However, he left absolutely no room for debate in the rematch, uncorking a massive left hook in the fifth round which sent Fisher packing to the canvas with his team subsequently throwing in the towel.

The dust has barely settled on that success, but questions are already being asked as to what could lie ahead for the 'Doncaster De La Hoya'.

"We've already seen Dave compete against some marquee names in the past including Luis Ortiz, Dillian Whyte and Tony Yoka, but at this stage of his career I think he would be best served keeping things at British level," our resident boxing insider Tebbutt said.

David Adeleye is scheduled to tackle Jeamie TKV in a rematch for the British heavyweight title and I would personally like to see Dave Allen in with either the winner or loser of that bout.

"He hinted at a potential crack at the British title after his win on Saturday, so I'm sure fighting the winner would carry plenty of appeal to him.

"Frazer Clarke, who has already beaten Dave in the past, had recently called out Johnny Fisher so maybe a rerun of that fight could also be in the pipeline."

Allen has made no secret of the fact that he would love to headline a show closer to home, with Sheffield and Doncaster already being mooted as potential destinations for the 33-year-old's Yorkshire homecoming.

However, whilst Tebbutt feels big name stars such as Derek Chisora and Joe Joyce could be lined-up as potential future opponents, he feels Allen's next showdown will be against somebody of a lesser calibre.

"I'd expect Dave to get that fight nearer to home next, I think he's earned that opportunity now," Tebbutt added.

"There are a lot of names out there aside from the few I have mentioned as to who could offer him lucrative fights down the line, including Chisora, Joyce or even a second fight with Whyte.

"On the back of his performance and win at the weekend options are going to be plentiful, and all three of those would make fun, exciting and money-spinning opponents for him.

"But my gut feeling is that he will face a more routine opponent next time out, in his own backyard, before looking to end his career with those more lucrative domestic dust-ups down the line."
