The PDC's top stars will descend on Basel for the Swiss Darts Trophy as a field of 48 arrowsmiths play for a prize fund of £175,000 at St. Jakobshalle in the penultimate European leg of the PDC Pro Tour for 2024.
Michael van Gerwen ended a 16-month drought on the PDC European Tour with a sensational 8-7 win over Gian van Veen to claim the 2024 Hungarian Darts Trophy title in Budapest and the Green Machine is in line to contend once more in Switzerland alongside the likes of Luke Humphries, Michael Smith and Gerwyn Price.
The Swiss Darts Trophy follows the traditional European Pro Tour format, with three days of knockout action in the leg-format, and it takes place from Friday 27th September until Sunday 29th September, 2024.
There will be six sessions across the three days, with afternoon and evening sessions on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Sessions are likely to begin at 13:00 and 19:00 local time.
The Swiss Darts Trophy is being held at the St. Jakobshalle in Basel, Switzerland. The building was first opened in September 1976 and now boasts a capacity of 12,400 people.
The Swiss Indoors men's annual tennis tournament is held at the St. Jakobshalle while the arena also hosts ice hockey, handball and curling as well as major concerts.
The action from the Swiss Darts Trophy can be watched on the bet365 Live Sports Streaming Service, while the tournament is being broadcast live on the PDC's own channel, PDC TV.
There are 16 seeded players, 16 PDC Order of Merit qualifiers, 10 Tour Card qualifiers and one each from the Nordic and Baltic qualifier and East European qualifier. They will be joined by four host nation qualifiers from Switzerland.
Amongst the seeded players are Dave Chisnall (1), Ross Smith (2), Luke Humphries (3), Gerwyn Price (4), Danny Noppert (5), Josh Rock (6), Stephen Bunting (7), Chris Dobey (13), Luke Littler (14) and Michael van Gerwen (15).
The Order of Merit qualifiers include the likes of Daryl Gurney, Jonny Clayton, Michael Smith, Raymond van Barneveld, James Wade, Joe Cullen and Nathan Aspinall.
The 2024 staging is the inaugural hosting of the Swiss Darts Trophy. Werner von Moltke, President of PDC Europe confirmed that : "We are really pleased to finally be able to offer darts fans in Switzerland our own event – darts is experiencing absolute hype there!"
This is the first time the Swiss Darts Trophy has taken place. It is now one of 13 PDC European Tour events taking place in 2024.
Van Gerwen won the latest event in Hungary. Littler (Belgium Darts Open and Austrian Darts Open) and Chisnall (European Darts Open and Flanders Darts Trophy) are the only multiple winners this season, while Humphries (German Darts Grand Prix), Rob Cross (Baltic Sea Darts Open) and Peter Wright (German Darts Championship) are also winners already this year.
