Players Championship Finals: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Three weeks before the start of the World Darts Championship the game's best players get one final competitive run-out in the Players Championship Finals from Butlin's Minehead.

The top 64 from the season-long Players Championship Order of Merit will toe the oche where Luke Littler, fresh from his sizzling triumph at last weekend's Grand Slam of Darts, looks the man to beat at 11/4.

But world number one Luke Humphries, seven-time winner Michael van Gerwen and a stack of other stars will be aiming to put Littler in his place and make a statement before they head for Alexandra Palace before Christmas.

Players Championship Finals betting tips and predictions

Gary Anderson each-way - 10/1

Gary Anderson, a man with a soft spot for Butlin's Minehead, has proved all season long that he is back to his very best - the only thing missing is a major title.

This weekend at the Players Championship Finals he looks nicely priced to change that by upstaging both Lukes, Littler and Humphries, and walking away with the £120,000 winner's cheque and the trophy.

He's done it before at this very venue, beating Adrian Lewis for the title 10 years ago, and the Flying Scotsman has also triumphed at the Somerset resort venue in the 2018 UK Open.

He lives just up the coast which, for a 53-year-old long since fed up with the rigours of travelling on the main tour, represents the ideal 'home' fixture.

But it's not just home advantage which gives him an edge. Anderson has enjoyed a stunning year, topping the Players Championship averages, winning a trio of titles and consistently challenging in the major TV events.

At last week's Grand Slam, for example, the only man who got close to toppling Littler was Anderson, taking a 13-9 and 15-14 lead over the 17-year-old, before succumbing in a last-leg decider in their semi-final.

He's a two-time world champion, playing as well as ever and should go close at 10/1.

Mike De Decker each-way - 33/1

Littler - 11/4 - and Luke Humphries - 4/1 - head the betting and it's hard to dispute either price.

However, this is an intense competition in Butlin's wide-open spaces where the winner will have played six matches over three days.

The cream still tends to rise to the top - Van Gerwen has won seven of the previous 15 runnings, Phil Taylor won it four times - but the playing field is being levelled this term.

Major wins for the likes of Stephen Bunting, Dimitri van den Bergh, Mike De Decker and Ritchie Edhouse demonstrate that everyone is capable and that anyone is beatable.

To that end, there are plenty of eye-catching prices down the book for players with genuine claims.

Martin Lukeman certainly gets a second glance at 100/1 just a few days after he reached the final of the Grand Slam. He could, of course, easily lose focus after that astonishing run.

De Decker looks interesting at 33/1 in the top half of the first quarter.

The Belgian proved his pedigree by winning the Grand Prix last month, giving him the confidence that hadn't always been there.

He produced one of the best displays at the Grand Slam, whitewashing Michael Smith in a winner-takes-all clash for a place in the knockout rounds, and he looks a class act.

Gerwyn Price each-way - 25/1

Such is the speed at which the darts world moves that the likes of Jonny Clayton (50/1), Nathan Aspinall (66/1) and Peter Wright (80/1), all recent major winners, are given slim chances of coming out on top in Minehead.

Even Michael van Gerwen is 10/1, which is pretty unheard of but illustrates that he is lacking consistency.

And then there's Gerwyn Price, who didn't even qualify for the Grand Slam and, largely because of that, gets a 25/1 quote.

That's a fair price for a recent world number one and world champion who won two World Series events in 2024, including an 8-1 drubbing of Littler to land the Australian Masters.

He might not be at his majestic best though if it clicks Gezzy can make a mockery of a generous quote.
