Nordic Darts Masters: Prediction, Tips and Odds

The fourth World Series event of 2024 takes the cream of the PDC to Copenhagen for this weekend's Nordic Darts Masters.

World No.1 Luke Humphries leads a high-class field which pits eight household names against eight northern European opponents.

Peter Wright is the defending champion while Rob Cross comes fresh off glory in New York last Saturday in the bet365 US Darts Masters.

Luke Humphries to win - 2/1

The crowd at the Forum Copenhagen will be disappointed that Luke Littler and Michael van Gerwen aren't in the 16-man field for the Nordic Darts Masters, but it is still a classy line-up.

Luke Humphries heads the betting and is a hard man to bet against.

He looks like he has a bye into the semi-finals, where he would meet Rob Cross in a repeat of last week's bet365 US Darts Masters semi-final which Voltage won en route to the title.

That was a strangely limp showing from Humphries, who had crushed David Cameron 6-0, averaged over 100 in beating Nathan Aspinall and then hit the buffers inexplicably against Cross.

Cool Hand doesn't let poor performances linger these days and he's well worth taking to make amends for his Big Apple vanishing act.

The 2/1 shot has a decent opener against local hero Benjamin Drue Reus, who will have the crowd on his side, but lacks the firepower to scare the world champion. The two met at the UK Open in March and Humphries won 10-3.

Should Humphries see off Reus that will set up a quarter-final against Peter Wright or Johan Engstrom, again two men who really can't hold a handle to the Englishman at the moment.

Humphries, who got engaged last week, has won on the European Tour this year as well as four nightly triumphs in the Premier League and when he's on it, looks almost unstoppable.

And, without Littler in the field and to a lesser extent Van Gerwen, there aren't many who can beat him right now.

Cross, incidentally, is no shoo-in to make the semis. He's got one of the tougher first-round draws against Nordic Tour money leader and recent Pro Tour runner-up Jeffrey de Graaf.

If if he wins that he would probably face Stephen Bunting in the last eight.

Nathan Aspinall to win - 8/1

Gerwyn Price looked in great form at Madison Square Garden last weekend in the bet365 US Darts Masters and is 7/2 and the shortest-priced player in the top half of the draw, the opposite half to Humphries.

The Iceman, having something of an up-and-down season, produced ton-plus averages beating Wright and Littler before just running out of gas in the final against Cross.

He insists he is not far away though a first-round clash with dangerous Latvian Madars Razma will test him out.

A better option in the top half is Nathan Aspinall, who also threw well in New York, beating Stowe Buntz 6-2 before being touched off 6-5 by Humphries in the quarter-finals.

Aspinall, who threw well in the Premier League but narrowly missed out on the play-offs, should have few issues with Marko Kantele in round one and can build from there.

Johan Engstrom to beat Peter Wright - 3/1

Michael Smith was the big-name casualty in round one at the bet365 US Darts Masters, being crushed 6-1 by Jeff Smith, but Peter Wright almost came a cropper, too.

Snakebite pipped Alex Spellman 6-5 with an 87 average before losing 6-1 to Price in the last eight.

Wright's form issues are well enough chronicled and he is worth taking on against Johan Engstrom, the veteran Swede who has won twice on the Nordic Tour this year.
