Nordic Darts Masters Prediction

Best Bet: Jonny Clayton @ 12/1

Jonny Clayton has got his mojo back at the age of 50 and is throwing some wonderful darts again.

The Ferret spent a couple of years in the darting wilderness, but is back at a level which makes him a threat to every arrowsmith on the planet.

Clayton made waves in the inaugural Nordic Darts Masters in 2021, winning his opening match 6-0, then averaging 103.87 in a 10-3 quarter-final destruction of Peter Wright. Despite averaging 103.13 in the semis, he lost to eventual champion Michael van Gerwen.

He has not played in the Nordic Darts Masters since, but is back this year with a hunger for competition.

He beat Max Hopp, Ross Smith, Danny Noppert, Humphries and Nico Springer en route to winning the Dutch Darts Championship on the European Tour at the end of May.

Clayton needed a 106.85 average to defeat buzzing Dutchman Noppert in the Netherlands, upsetting the local crowd, with the Welshman proving he is a match for anyone and the moment and will not fear anybody in Copenhagen.

Darius Labanauskas should be a straightforward opening opponent for Clayton, with Stephen Bunting probably waiting in the quarter-finals, then Littler or Nathan Aspinall in the semis.

Aspinall has been in top form lately, so it is far from certain that Clayton has to overcome Littler to reach the final.

Even if the Nuke does emerge as a foe for Clayton, the outsider can draw on the fact he beat Littler 4-2 in the World Darts Masters in February.

Steve Palmer explains:

Luke Littler averaged 108.5 against Jonny Clayton in the World Darts Masters in February, but Clayton hit nine doubles in just 15 attempts, showcasing his deadly finishing skills to send the Nuke packing.

Alternative Bet: Rob Cross @ 12/1

Another player worth considering for the Nordic Darts Masters is Rob Cross, who played some excellent darts in the Premier League without managing to progress to the playoffs. A nine-dart finish in Brighton showcased the talent of the former world champion.

Cross could take advantage of a kind draw in Denmark. Andreas Harrysson should be swatted aside in the first round, with Chris Dobey or Jeffrey de Graaf waiting in the quarter-finals.

A semi-final place looks well within Cross' compass, with Humphries or Gerwyn Price likely to be waiting at the last-four stage. Cross knows he has the beating of both men and over a best-of-13-legs contest Voltage could cause an upset.

Littler and Humphries are dominating the outright betting, but could suffer a Premier League hangover and Clayton and Cross may be more motivated.

Steve Palmer explains:

Rob Cross is a five-time winner on the World Series of Darts schedule, including a victory on the continent in the Dutch Masters in January, so he enjoys his trips to this part of the world.
