The Darts International Open starts in Germany on Friday and red-hot world number one Luke Humphries will expect to threaten for another trophy.

Some of the world's best arrowsmiths will gather at the SACHSENarena from Friday through Sunday for the Darts International Open. The event in Riesa commands a first prize of £30,000.

Luke Humphries to win - 12/5

Luke Humphries is the biggest name in attendance in Riesa this weekend - the world champion has been playing superbly and is hot favourite at 12/5 for the Darts International Open.

Humphries kickstarted his year with three consecutive weeks of success in the Premier League, enjoying Thursday-night triumphs in Brighton, Nottingham and Dublin, averaging 105.53 in the Dublin final.

Cool Hand then went to Germany and romped to a comfortable success in the German Darts Grand Prix, dominating that event, so he is back in the same country this weekend absolutely oozing confidence.

Humphries averaged 112.66 in the final of the German Darts Grand Prix, destroying Michael van Gerwen 8-1, sending the Munich masses into a frenzy.

In Riesa, Humphries has Michael Smith and Gerwyn Price in his half of the draw, so the world number one will probably have to negotiate some tough matches just to get to the final.

Gerwyn Price to win - 13/2

Gerwyn Price has been scoring well in recent weeks, setting up winning opportunities, but the Welshman has been struggling to hit doubles. He made no impact in the two Players Championships earlier this week and 2024 is turning into a year of frustration for Iceman.

Perhaps Riesa is the perfect place for Price to revive his fortunes. He averaged 104.24 in his opening match of last year's Darts International Open, then 106.69 in his second match, falling in love with the SACHSENarena.

In his five matches in the event last year, Price averaged more than 100 in four of them, defeating Michael van Gerwen 8-4 in an extremely high-class final.

With no Van Gerwen to worry about this time - the Dutchman is skipping the event - Price will feel he can go close to retaining his title. He is 13/2 to do so. Price is the stand-out name in his quarter of the draw, but he will expect to play Luke Humphries or Michael Smith in the semi-finals.

Dave Chisnall to win - 20/1

Dave Chisnall loves the European events on the PDC circuit and the Englishman could be a popular 20/1 chance. Chizzy is seeded No. 1 for this event, such is his record of success when he ventures on to the Continent.

Chisnall will face either Richard Veenstra or Andrew Gilding in his opening match. The St Helens man will expect to cruise through against either of those two, while the rest of the draw looks promising, too.

With Luke Humphries, Gerwyn Price and Michael Smith housed in the other half of the draw, Chisnall will feel he can make strong progress to the final. Each-way punters will be looking at the terms of a half the odds, the first two with interest.

Chisnall has won six times on the European Tour - his first coming in the German Darts Championship. The 43-year-old will feel he can get past the likes of Joe Cullen and make inroads from the top half of the draw.

Josh Rock to win - 33/1

Josh Rock made an appearance on stage to be interviewed in the Belfast leg of the Premier League - and it is a shame that the faltering career of the talented youngster has not allowed him to play in that event.

Before Luke Littler burst on to the scene, it seemed that Rock was the most promising youngster in darts, but the 22-year-old has yet to make a significant impact. Maybe the Darts International Open is the moment that Rock steps up. He is 33/1 for victory.
