The European Tour takes over from the Premier League and Players Championship to deliver this weekend’s darts action with 48 players heading for the International Open in Riesa, Germany.
Gerwyn Price, who won on the European Tour last month, is the 5/1 market leader, with Dutch trio Michael van Gerwen, Wessel Nijman and Gian van Veen also prominent in the betting.
Stephen Bunting is back to defend the title he won 12 months ago but Luke Littler and Luke Humphries have opted to sit out the seventh event on the European Tour.
Best Bet - Wessel Nijman each-way @ 15/2
Alternative Bet - James Wade each-way @ 33/1
Alternative Bet - Ross Smith each-way @ 20/1
Best Bet: Wessel Nijman each-way @ 15/2
Tournament favourite Price is housed in the top section of the draw, which looks to be the stronger half, along with Van Veen, Bunting, Ryan Serale, Chris Dobey, Luke Woodhouse and Jermaine Wattimena.
Therefore, it looks better to delve into the bottom section and it is hard to look past the chances of the talented Wessel Nijman, who collected the second Euro Tour event title of the season in Germany.
The Dutchman has picked up five Players Championship crowns this season and he is averaging an extremely impressive 97.78 over 75 Pro Tour matches.
Nijman gets a bye to the second round, courtesy of being the number 14 seed, which is no bad thing with many dangerous performers lurking at the first hurdle.
Josh Rock and Van Gerwen are the top seeds in the bottom half, but that duo have struggled in the Premier League this season and do not appear to be operating anywhere near the top of their ability.
Nijman is 15/2 to take the International Darts Open and he rates a nice each-way play at that mark.
Alternative Bet: James Wade each-way @ 33/1
If there was one arrowsmith to derail Nijman before the latter stage of the event it could be James Wade, who is worth a cover shot.
The Machine, who made it to four European Tour semi-finals last term, reached the final of this season’s UK Open and has collected Pro Tour titles in each of the last two campaigns.
Wade is up to number six in the PDC rankings, his highest position since the start of the 2021 season, and he continues to churn out high-level performances.
A second-round tie against either Dave Chisnall or Liam Maendl-Lawrance offers no fear to the multiple major winner, who looks capable of putting together a deep run.
Alternative Bet: Ross Smith each-way @ 20/1
Ross Smith can boss quarter rivals Danny Noppert, Van Gerwen and Damon Heat to enjoy a good run in Germany.
Smudger has won a Players Championship title in each of the last four seasons and he achieved a runners-up spot on the European Tour this term.
He is inside the world’s top 10 in terms of Pro Tour averages this campaign and the former European champion has happy memories of Germany, having picked up that title in Dortmund four years ago.
Gerwyn Price is the favourite heading into the 2026 edition.
The Welshman is a four-time winner of this tournament, last lifting the trophy in 2023.
No other player has won this competition more than once.
Stephen Bunting won the 2025 title, beating Nathan Aspinall 8-5 in the final.
This will be the 11th staging of the International Open.
Michael Smith, who is not competing this year due to injury, won the inaugural edition in 2015.
