German Darts Grand Prix: Tips, Predictions and Odds

Forty-eight players have gathered at the Kulturhalle Zenith in Munich for the second European Tour event of the year, with Cool Hand Luke Humphries 3/1 to fly home on Monday night with the trophy and £30,000 winner's cheque.

German Darts Grand Prix betting tips and predictions

Luke Humphries to win @ 3/1

He’s the favourite, not a huge price and fresh off a Premier League flop, but Luke Humphries reckons only two players can beat him at the moment - and one of those isn’t toeing the oche in Munich this weekend.

World No.1 Humphries is in Germany while blazing a trail at the head of the Premier League, despite losing 6-5 in Belfast on Thursday night to Luke Littler.

Littler is one of those two players - the other being Michael van Gerwen - who Humphries reckons can give him a game at the moment and the 17-year-old hasn’t qualified for the German Grand Prix.

Van Gerwen is in the field, and is throwing nicely if not staggeringly, which means Humphries can emerge from a softish quarter to land his sixth European Tour title in the last three seasons at odds of 3/1.

The world champion, like the other 16 seeded players in the field, doesn’t play until Sunday and will await the winner of the first-round tie between Luke Woodhouse and Niels Zonneveld, neither of whom ought to be able to get close to Humphries.

Stephen Bunting to win @ 25/1

Humphries is in the bottom half of the draw alongside the likes of Gerwyn Price and Michael Smith - at least one of whom won’t get past the quarter-finals - with Van Gerwen the powerbroker in the top half, but not necessarily the man to reach the final.

At the first ET event in Belgium in the first weekend in March, the Green Machine was unplugged by an ailing Peter Wright in round two, an event which Littler went on to win.

Stephen Bunting had a good run in Wieze, beating Dimitri van den Bergh, Josh Rock and Mike de Decker en route to a last-eight loss at the hands of Gerwyn Price.

That was part of a good start to the year for Bunting, who landed his first PDC major by winning the Masters in early February and a couple of weeks later reached a Players Championship final in which he was edged out by Raymond van Barneveld.

Bunting has been elevated to the No.16 seed courtesy of Gary Anderson’s withdrawal, sparing The Bullet a first-round match and making him a genuine danger, given his form, at 25/1.

R van Barneveld to beat G van Veen @ 6/5

Among the eye-catching first-round ties is an all-Dutch showdown between rising star Gian van Veen and veteran Raymond van Barneveld.

Van Veen is on the up, of that there’s no doubt, but Barney proved in the Players Championship earlier this month in Hildesheim that there’s life in the old dog yet.

This is a fascinating clash of the generations and when they met in February on the floor it was Barney who delivered 6-4. He’s the outsider in Munich where support for him will be unqualified and he can delight his hordes of supporters by claiming the victory.

C Menzies to beat M de Decker @ 10/11

There’ll be no confidence lacking on the stage when Cameron Menzies and Mike de Decker clash.

These two know they are good but are also two of the most frustrating players out there, failing to turn their undoubted talent into consistent efforts in the big tournaments.

Menzies is producing the better results on the Pro Tour this year with a run to the last eight of PC5 the highlight.

De Decker, in contrast, has sustained three first-round flops in the Pro Tour alongside victory over Michael Smith in the Belgian Open, summing up his inconsistency.

Menzies has won both meetings between the two players and can complete a hat-trick.
