Chris Dobey to win - 22/1

Two-time European Tour winner Luke Littler headlines a top-class line-up at this weekend's German Darts Championship from Halle39 in Hildesheim, Germany.

Forty-eight players will be toeing the oche in the ninth event on the European Tour, all of them with eyes on the £30,000 winner's cheque and the trophy which was surprisingly lifted by local hopeful Ricardo Pietreczko 12 months ago.

Pikachu was the 12th winner of the title, joining the likes of Phil Taylor, Michael van Gerwen and Gary Anderson on the honours board.

But also up there are the likes of Alan Norris and Devon Petersen, winners in 2016 and 2020 respectively, and proof that it may make sense to look beyond the usual suspects especially in an event so soon after a summer break.

Chris Dobey wouldn't represent a shock winner. Hollywood is a former Masters winner, a former Premier League player and has won four Players Championship events; two of which have come this year.

His most recent triumph was just a week ago in Milton Keynes at PC19, a day when he produced a trio of ton-plus averages to take the title.

So, his form is good and he has also lucked out with the draw. Seeded 11 he finds himself in the half away from the favourites, 3/1 chance Littler and 13/2 shot Van Gerwen.

With so many high-class players in round one - a round featuring major winners like James Wade, Peter Wright, Daryl Gurney, Dimitri Van den Bergh and Nathan Aspinall - there are likely to be some explosive second-round ties, and Dobey might not get the rub of the green.

But as it stands, and given how well he is throwing, the Bedlington ace represents a fair play at 22/1.

Ryan Searle each-way - 33/1

Another player seeded into round two and playing well is Ryan Searle, who has to navigate the minefield that is the top half of the draw, but who is priced accordingly at 33/1.

At PC18 in Milton Keynes last week Heavy Metal threw some astonishing tungsten, averaging around 102 for the day en-route to the final, where he lost to Damon Heta.

Searle started 2024 like a train with two runners-up spots and a win in the first three Players Championship events.

And on the European Tour he has reached the quarter-finals in five of the previous eight events, demonstrating a level of consistency that suggests a final is there for the taking.

Dom Taylor each-way - 100/1

For a real Hail Mary, consider a nibble at Bristol's Dom Taylor at 100/1. He isn't a household name on Tour - indeed this is his first year with the card.

But on the circuit they know how good he can be and there is a sense that the results will soon follow.

A Players Championship semi-finalist at the back end of last year, Taylor has had four top-16 finishes this year and is actually sitting 14th in the PC averages, higher than the likes of Rob Cross, Michael Smith or Nathan Aspinall.

He qualified for the Austrian Open - averaging 100 in a first-round whitewash of Christian Grodl - and the Dutch Darts Championship, where he beat Jose de Sousa before losing out to Gian van Veen in a deciding leg.

He also made it into the last European Tour event in June, the European Darts Open, where he saw off Radek Szaganski in round one, before losing to Heta.

He is a clinical finisher and will get better for this big-stage exposure. He starts in round one, but at a big price stranger things have happened.
