The European Tour events continue on the PDC darts circuit this weekend with the European Darts Trophy from the Lockhalle in Gottingen, Germany. World number one Luke Humphries will be in attendance, chasing the £30,000 first prize.
The action starts on Friday with 16 first-round matches, then there are eight second-round contests on Saturday, before a blockbuster Sunday comprising the third round, quarter-finals, semis and final. Luke Littler and Stephen Bunting have opted to skip the event, leaving Humphries as clear favourite.
Humphries is one of six players who are toeing the oche in the Lockhalle after competing in the Premier League in Wales. Michael van Gerwen, Gerwyn Price, Rob Cross, Chris Dobey and Nathan Aspinall are also going from the Cardiff Premier League action to Germany.
Cool Hand Luke is 3/1 favourite for European Darts Trophy glory. The former world champion will play either Dirk van Duijvenbode or Boris Krcmar in the second round, with Michael Smith or Ricardo Pietreczko likely to be waiting in round three.
Van Gerwen is the top seed in the other half of the draw. The Dutchman will play either Daryl Gurney or German rising star Niko Springer in the second round. If MVG negotiates that hurdle, a high-class youngster will be waiting in the third round - either Josh Rock, Gian van Veen or Connor Scutt.
Rob Cross to win and each-way - 16/1
A nine-dart finish in Brighton in the Premier League earlier this month underlined the fact that Rob Cross is throwing some excellent tungsten - and Voltage could do plenty of damage from a kind draw in the European Darts Trophy.
The Englishman, world champion in 2018, won a European Tour event in Germany in 2023 - the European Darts Grand Prix. Victory in the Dutch Darts Masters at the end of January showed how much Cross enjoys his trips to the Continent.
The 34-year-old is the third seed for the European Darts Trophy and the draw has worked out well for him. Andrew Gilding or Callan Rydz will be Cross's first opponent, with Dimitri van den Bergh, Ryan Joyce or Joe Cullen waiting in the third round.
Damon Heta to win and each-way - 22/1
The quarter of the draw housing Cross may be the section on which outright punters should be concentrating. The tournament is ultra-competitive elsewhere, with big guns set to face each other early in proceedings, but there is a weakness around the number three seed.
It is reasonable to expect either Cross, Damon Heta or Mike De Dekker to book a semi-final spot from that portion of the draw. Since De Dekker's non-seed status means he has to play in the first round - against Grand Slam finalist Martin Lukeman - it is Cross and Heta who make the most punting appeal.
Heta, who delivered a nine-dart finish in the last World Championship and was showing form which almost earned him a Premier League place, looks well capable of a deep run in Germany this weekend.
The Aussie has Cameron Menzies or Alan Soutar in the second round, so is odds-on to progress to the final day of action.
Ricky Evans to win and each-way - 150/1
Punters seeking a big-price outsider could do worse than Ricky Evans, who has found some form in recent weeks and has the ability to beat anyone over short-distance matches like those in the European Darts Trophy.
Evans will fancy his chances of defeating Raymond van Barneveld in round one - and there is nobody in Rapid's section of the draw who he will fear.
