Burnley are still without a manager as they prepare for their return to the Championship next season, though that won't stop the higher-ups from sanctioning sales of players they deem surplus to requirements.
There are currently a few names being linked with moves away from Turf Moor, such as Luca Koleosho, Quilindschy Hartman and now Hjalmar Ekdal.
According to Swedish outlet FotbollDirekt, FC Copenhagen are chasing the centre-back's signature as they prepare for a season in the UEFA Conference League.
Ekdal spent the back end of the 2024/25 season on loan at Groningen and returned to Burnley keen to fight for his place in the team.
However it didn't work out for the Swede, who featured just 19 times in the Premier League last term as the Clarets were relegated, conceding more goals than any other side.
This didn't prevent the 27-year-old from receiving a call-up to the Sweden squad for the 2026 World Cup however, where he is currently playing back-up to Victor Lindelof, Isak Hien and Gustaf Lagerbielke.
Although he is yet to feature for Blågult, there may be an opportunity should Graham Potter look to rotate the side that lost 5-1 to the Netherlands last time out ahead of their final group game.
They won their first game against Tunisia by the same score line and sit third in the group, though a point against Japan next would likely see them through as one of the best third placed teams.
Ekdal's contract is entering its final year with no sign of an offer on the horizon, meaning a move away is likely the best move forwards for both parties, with Burnley receiving a fee and the centre-back potentially earning more minutes elsewhere.
Werder Bremen and Rangers have also been linked, though FotbollDirekt claim that Copenhagen's interest is the strongest and that it is one move to keep an eye on as Burnley refresh their squad ahead of their Championship return.
