We analyse the credentials and statistics of Dan Azeez and Lewis Edmondson as the pair get set to go head-to-head for the British light-heavyweight title on the undercard of Adam Azim vs. Ohara Davies.
Dan Azeez is trying to rediscover the form that catapulted his career from small hall shows to a world title eliminator against Joshua Buatsi.
Azeez was all set to face Lewis Edmondson on Saturday in a non-title bout but now the carrot has been sweetened with the British light-heavyweight title on the line.
Is Azeez on the decline? Is Edmondson about to pass him on the way up?
We don't have to wait too long to find out!
Before then, however, let’s have a look at the tale of the tape…

If you had said 18 months ago that Dan Azeez would struggle against Hrvoje Sep over eight rounds and be in a 50-50 contest against Lewis Edmondson you would have been accused of knowing nothing about boxing.
In March 2023, Azeez was crowned European light-heavyweight champion after demolishing Thomas Faure in France and had gathered unstoppable momentum.
However, when the time came to step up to world level against friend turned foe Joshua Buatsi there was a slight gulf in class between the two.
The defeat to Buatsi was compounded when he was fortunate to leave Selhurst Park with a draw against Hrvoje Sep in June.
Are we witnessing the beginning of the end for the former British champion?
Saturday night, against a far fresher albeit inexperienced Edmondson, will tell us everything we need to know.
Defeat for Azeez could accelerate his career towards the finish line.
With both men priced up identically we have the very definition of a 50-50 fight.
Strengths: | Weaknesses: |
Pressure fighting | Takes unnecessary shots |
Inside fighting | May be on the decline |
Jab | Too static |
Work-rate | Ineffective moving backwards |
Lewis Edmondson never had the British title on his mind when he was calling out Ben Whittaker nearly a year ago.
The unbeaten 28-year-old has been looking to make a name for himself and now gets potentially a perfect opportunity on Saturday night against Dan Azeez.
Beating the former Lonsdale belt holder will turn the volume up on his calls for a fight against Whittaker but he may have to wait in line if the Olympic medallist faces Liam Cameron in a rematch after last weekend’s calamities in Riyadh.
However, there are more questions than answers over Edmondson.
Last time out against Joel McIntyre, he was flattered by the 80-72 scorecard and if Azeez can rediscover his form from 2022/2023 then Edmondson is in for the toughest fight of his career by some distance.
Edmondson is a confident individual, however, and will no doubt smell blood this week.
A fast start from the Southampton boxer could earn him a victory quicker than he anticipates.
Strengths: | Weaknesses: |
Jab | Inexperience |
Front-foot boxing | Had things all his own way |
Combines pressure with speed | First 12-round fight |
Always busy | Over eager |
