Aussie Rules: Crows on track says Nicks

Adelaide coach Matthew Nicks insists the club’s rebuild is on track despite a disappointing 2022 AFL season that has seen them pick up just three wins so far.

The Crows are priced at 13/100 to beat West Coast this weekend. They were out to finish in the top eight of the AFL but that seems to be a long way off as they sit 15th on the ladder, 12 points away from finals.

Third-year coach

Nicks is into his third year as coach of Adelaide and has managed to pick up just 13 wins from 49 games. If he does not get win number 14 against the struggling Eagles then the pressure could be really on.

Despite the lack of wins, Nicks says the rebuild of the Crows is on track and they are heading in the right direction.

"Our momentum is really positive at this point in time," Nicks told reporters on Friday. "It's hard to say that when you have lost five in a row, but we know within the four walls that we're heading in the right direction.

"We are frustrated because we are not getting results. But we also understand this is a long game, this takes time, momentum for us is heading in the right direction, our development of this group is on track."

Missed opportunities

Nicks says his team are not struggling because of a lack of effort, but they need to start taking their chances.

"We need more polish, we are not finishing our work off," he added. "We work really hard, there's no question on our effort. But we just lack some smarts at times, we lack the ability to put the ball between the goals at crucial times.”
