Cristiano Ronaldo has confirmed his plan to stay at Al Nassr despite talks that he may depart at the end of his contract.
With the Club World Cup just around the corner, there has expectedly been talks surrounding the future of Cristiano Ronaldo.
His contract with Saudi Pro League outfit Al Nassr is set to expire on 30th June 2025, and a switch to domestic rivals Al Hilal had been mooted, now led by former Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi.
However, in an interview prior to Portugal’s Nations League final clash with Spain, Ronaldo practically ruled out the possibility of playing in the newly-formed edition of the Club World Cup, hinting at extending his stay with Al Nassr.
Ronaldo said: “It’s almost decided that I will not take part at the FIFA Club World Cup despite receiving many invitations and proposals.
“There have been talks, contacts but you have to think about short, medium and long term,” he added.
Any doubts that still remained regarding Ronaldo’s future were shut down in a post-match interview following his nation’s penalty shootout victory against Spain.
My future? Basically nothing is going to change. Staying at Al Nassr? Yeah.
- Cristiano Ronaldo
An equaliser against Luis de la Fuente’s Spain took Ronaldo’s career goals tally to 938, and while the Portuguese forward has nothing left to prove, captaining his country to a second Nations League certainly adds to his remarkable legacy.
Ronaldo started the game in a front three alongside Chelsea’s Pedro Neto and Porto’s Francisco Conceicao, before being replaced by Goncalo Ramos in the 88th minute through injury.
Set to stay at Al Nassr for at least one more campaign, should terms be agreed on a new deal, Ronaldo will undoubtedly have his eyes set on breaking more records.
He led the way with the most goals in the division in the 2024/25 term, netting 25 times in 30 appearances, and he will be aiming to climb the list for the all-time top goalscorers in Saudi Pro League history, currently placed ninth with 74 goals.
