Durham made it three wins from five matches in this season’s T20 Blast with their victory away at North Group leaders Northamptonshire Steelbacks on Friday, but a trip to Headingley to face a strong Yorkshire side poses another stern test.

The Sharks were 15-run winners at the County Ground, showing excellent skill with the ball to defend a total of 157 to end Northamptonshire’s unbeaten start.

However, the Steelbacks threw that away, having been 34-0 after four overs in what looked a routine chase, and Yorkshire’s batting depth may prove too much for them.

Durham currently sit third, four points ahead of Yorkshire who have won only two of their opening six T20 Blast assignments.

Yorkshire go into this game following a 32-run defeat to Birmingham, failing to get close to the Bears' total of 205, but they had beaten Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire prior to that.

Durham will be on a high after their impressive victory over Northamptonshire Steelbacks, who had won their opening six T20 Blast assignments.

However, there is a sense that Northamptonshire were complacent in what appeared a mediocre chase of 157 and Yorkshire’s added batting power may give them the edge.

Only once in five games have Durham made over 170, which means it is their bowlers who have been delivering the goods.

However, Yorkshire have a strong top three with Will Luxton and Dawid Malan opening and Adam Lyth coming in at three, while James Wharton, Will Sutherland and Matthew Revis can be destructive in the later overs.

Yorkshire, despite winning only two of their opening six games, have twice passed 200 and there is a sense that their performances are improving.

Durham’s top order batters are yet to catch fire and the loss of early wickets could soon pile the pressure on them.

The Vikings were seven-wicket winners in their home fixture with Durham last season and they are fancied to repeat the feat.

Yorkshire opener Dawid Malan is the leading runscorer in the competition, having compiled 284 runs from his six innings, and he can lead from the front.

Durham bowler Ben Raine has also impressed in this season’s competition, racking up 13 wickets in five innings, and he may have another key role to play.
