West Indies v England first ODI: Prediction, Tips and Odds

England are in the Caribbean for an eight-match white-ball tour which starts with the first of three ODIs at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua on Thursday.

The Three Lions' 50-over squad hasn't been seen since their 3-2 defeat at home by Australia at the back end of the summer, while Shai Hope's hosts begin the series fresh from a 2-1 loss in Sri Lanka.

England to win - 4/6

Eleven months after England lost their opening ODI against West Indies in Antigua, Liam Livingstone's men can exact some sort of revenge when they take to the field once more at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.

Last December it was Shai Hope's side who chased down 325 to beat England in a thrilling first instalment in a series the Windies would go on to win 2-1.

Hope remains in charge of the home side, with Livingstone - on the receiving end last year - in interim charge of England as Jos Buttler continues to recover from a calf injury.

While the West Indies' squad shows few changes from last year's squad, there is a distinctly different to the England set-up, with the likes of Harry Brook, Ben Duckett and Gus Atkinson having not travelled so soon after the Test series in Pakistan.

But England still have a seriously strong look about them, especially in their batting and, having learned to their cost last year that scoring 300-plus doesn't necessarily win one-dayers nowadays, expect a strong and focused effort from the tourists.

England haven't played since the summer when they were pipped 3-2 by Australia in an entertaining late-summer series.

West Indies, on the other hand, have hot-tailed it home from Sri Lanka, where they were tied up in knots in unfamiliar conditions and lost 2-1.

Their previous series had been a 3-0 drubbing in Australia, with much of the good work from last autumn's triumph over England being undone.

Hope's men will be happy to be back in conditions they know, but they are up against an England attack boosted by the presence of Jofra Archer, Reece Topley and Adil Rashid.

A top order swollen by explosive hitters such as Phil Salt, Will Jacks and the skipper himself means that England to go 1-0 up in the series is decent value at 4/6.

Will Jacks top England Batter - 15/4

Will Jacks' last outing for England was an all-or-bust series against the Australians in the summer.

The all-rounder made ducks at Bristol and Headingley, but also 84 at Chester-le-Street and 62 at Trent Bridge, while last autumn in the Caribbean in the three ODIs he registered scores of 26, 73 and 17.

The 25-year-old Surrey smasher is now an integral part of the England set-up with 432 runs at 36 and a strike-rate of 103.

He shone at Antigua last year and can do so again by landing top batter honours for his team at 15/4.

Sherfane Rutherford top West Indies Batter - 11/2

It may pay to look down the order for top West Indies batter honours, with the openers likely to have to fend off new-ball stars Archer and Topley.

Skipper Hope, who bats at No.3 or 4, is 10/3, though it's the man pencilled in at five, Sherfane Rutherford, who gets the nod.

Rutherford was by some distance West Indies' best batter in Sri Lanka with a trio of fantastic knocks.

He scored a classy 74 not out in difficult conditions in Kandy, followed that with a run-a-ball 80 in the second game and then clattered 50 off 26 balls to seal the deal in the rain-shortened third contest.

Rutherford hit 63 in the second one-dayer in Antigua against England last December and the left-hander is attractively priced at 11/2 to be his side's top scorer.
