Australia Women whitewashed England Women in their three-game one day international series, but the visitors should be able to make it more competitive when the pair meet in a three-game T20I series in this year's Ashes.
The hosts have not played a T20I since their shock World Cup semi-final defeat to South Africa and they will be hoping to put memories of that behind them by securing the two points that they require to retain the Ashes.
England need to win all three games in this series and then the day-night Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground if they are to win the Ashes.
Australia to win 2-1 - 11/8
Australia won all three of the 50-over matches between these two teams in fairly comfortable fashion.
They chased a total of 204 with more than 10 overs and six wickets to spare in the first game, before setting totals of 180 and 308/8 in the latter two and bowling out the visitors for 159 and 222 respectively.
They switch to the T20I format for this series and have been equally successful in the shortest version of the game in recent years.
In fact their only loss in their last 12 T20Is came in the T20 World Cup semi-final where they were shocked by South Africa.
They did lose 2-1 in the last T20I series between these two teams, however, as England edged a tense series at Lord’s in 2023, winning by five wickets in the final rain-disrupted game.
Heather Knight’s side also beat the World Cup runners-up South Africa 3-0 in a recent series, so they are in decent form in this version of the game.
Dani Gibson, Bess Heath, Freya Kemp and Linsey Smith have been brought in to freshen up the travelling party and they should be able to keep things more respectable than in the 50-over series.
Take England to win at least one game of this three-game series, although Australia’s dominance on home soil should be able to tell once again and they are fancied to win 2-1.
Alyssa Healy top Australia batter - 11/4
Alyssa Healy comes from a family of Australian cricketing royalty and she has cemented her place at the top of the game since making her debut for the national team in 2010.
She is ranked in the top 10 in the world for women's T20I batters and had one of her best years ever in the format in 2024, making 433 runs.
The 32-year-old made scores of 70, 29 and 15 in the 50-over series between these two teams, so is clearly in good form and looks well worth taking to be Australia’s top runscorer in this series.
Nat Sciver-Brunt top England batter - 5/2
Nat Scriver-Brunt will be eyeing up a piece of history as this T20I series approaches. She will be aiming to overtake Sarah Taylor, who has 16, on the list of most half-centuries for an England batter as she chases Danni Wyatt-Hodge's total of 20.
Scriver-Brunt has been in fine form in this format recently, her last four innings are 48 not out, 57 not out, 59 and 67 not out.
She also grew into the 50-over series, making totals of 19, 35 and 61 across the three games.
The veteran has played plenty of Women’s Big Bash, making 1413 runs in total in that competition, so will be very familiar with conditions and is fancied to be England’s top runscorer in this series.
