Gloucestershire became the 14th county to add their name to the T20 Blast roll of honour last year as they upset the odds to triumph on Finals Day.
No side has ever successfully defended the title, however, and there are a host of pretenders queuing up to succeed the West County outfit as Twenty20 champions in 2025.
Birmingham Bears to win - 7/1
The T20 Vitality Blast title will once again be handed out at Edgbaston and the Birmingham crowd could be cheering on a home champion this September.
It has been 11 years since Birmingham won their one and only T20 crown but the Bears could be about to sink their claws into the opposition once again.
Led by former England white-ball star Moeen Ali, Birmingham have a strong squad at their disposal and crucially know how to navigate their way through the relentless 14-match group stage.
The Bears have made at least the quarter-finals in 14 of the 22 previous editions of the Blast and they have made a last-eight exit in each of the last four campaigns.
That's not good enough for a side as ambitious as Birmingham, especially given they have topped the North Group in each of the last three years, but their string of last-eight exits will end at some point and they look well placed to make a bold bid for a second T20 crown.
The availability of rising star Jacob Bethell may be scarce given his likely England commitments but New Zealand Test skipper Tom Latham should weigh in with a welter of runs at the top of the order, Sam Hain has been a standout county performer for a number of years and Moeen, now 37, still has the ability to take apart any attack when in the groove.
A strong batting core is supplemented by a varied and potent bowling unit and the Bears could again take some stopping in the North Group, paving the way for a title tilt.
Durham to win - 25/1
Durham are one of only four counties yet to have their name engraved on the T20 Blast trophy, with a runners-up effort in 2016 the closest they have come.
That's one of only two Finals Day appearances for the North East county but there is a chance that they are vastly overpriced at 25/1.
Captain and opener Alex Lees leads a capable batting unit featuring the likes of England Lions duo Ollie Robinson and Emilio Gay, South Africa international David Beddingham and overseas all-rounder Jimmy Neesham, who has been a stalwart of New Zealand's white-ball teams for a number of years.
The bowling options available to Lees are a little more inexperienced, although fast bowler Matt Potts was used only twice by England last summer so could be around to add leadership and, crucially, pace to Durham's attack.
Durham reached the quarter-finals last season before being outclassed by perennial tournament favourites Surrey. There is no reason why they cannot finish in the top four of what looks like a weaker North section once again and they are arguably the most appealing outside option in this year's competition.
