Sri Lanka v Bangladesh: Prediction, Tips and Odds

It's the Lions of Sri Lanka against the Tigers of Bangladesh in a huge contest in Group D of the T20 World Cup in Dallas and neither side is brimming with confidence.

Former champions Sri Lanka have had four days to mull over their wretched six-wicket loss to South Africa in their first match.

Bangladesh, meanwhile, have had two weeks to wallow in the 2-1 series loss to the United States which preceded this tournament.

Sri Lanka v Bangladesh betting tips and predictions

Highest Single Over Total - Under 18.5 runs - 5/6

It looks a lot easier to make cases against both Sri Lanka and Bangladesh going into their Group D showdown at Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas.

Wanindu Hasaranga's Lankans threw in an opening-day shocker against South Africa, skittled for just 77 in a disappointing six-wicket loss.

Bangladesh, on the other hand, are still licking their wounds from a 2-1 series loss to the United States, though the Americans' subsequent success over Pakistan might suggest it isn't quite the shocker we initially thought.

These are two teams chasing second spot in a wide-open group but low on confidence, though Sri Lanka are rightly favourites.

Sri Lanka are feeling justifiably aggrieved at a schedule which sees them play their four pool matches at four different venues and the wicket they found in New York against the Proteas was barely fit for purpose, though they still should have performed better.

The wicket at Dallas is clearly playing better and that should suit Sri Lanka, while Bangladesh are generally in a terrible place and look rudderless.

The prices are right - Sri Lanka should be favourites, but don't expect fireworks. These are fragile units who could well be involved in a low-scorer on conditions which they won't be accustomed to.

The highest single over to yield 18.5 runs looks on the high side - it wasn't reached in either of the games played in this group so far.

Kusal Mendis Over 2.5 4s - 5/4

None of the Sri Lankan batters got to grips with conditions in New York and the South African bowling attack as they were bowled out for 77 on Monday, and that included Kusal Mendis.

Their big-hitting keeper-batter scored a subdued 19 off 30 balls, utterly out of character for a player with a strike-rate of just under 134 in T20Is.

His record against Bangladesh is even better, with 432 runs scored in eight games against the Tigers and a strike-rate of over 164.

In those eight games he has found the boundary an astonishing 61 times. In those are 36 fours, meaning an average of 4.5 fours per innings.

Back Mendis to score at least three fours against a Bangladesh bowling attack that looked desperately flat in warm-up games against the US and India.

Mahmudullah Top Bangladesh Batter - 9/1

You might think the idea of backing anyone at such long odds to be top batter in a T20 international is fanciful, but look back no further than Bangladesh's last match for confirmation it can happen.

In Bangladesh's last warm-up game they were battered by 60 runs by India, scoring 122-9. Their top scorer that day? Mahmudullah, who entered the arena at No.7 and smashed 40 not out after the customary top-order collapse.

He could even bat at No.6 against Sri Lanka and in a line-up as brittle as theirs he still looks like real value.
