South Africa v Afghanistan betting tips and predictions

Kagiso Rabada to be South Africa top bowler - 3/1

South Africa are known as world cricket's great underachievers but they are 4/11 to reach their first major-tournament final by defeating Afghanistan in Thursday's T20 World Cup semi-final.

The Afghans are also breaking new ground in Trinidad, having reached the last four of a tournament for the first time in their brief history as a top-tier team.

They walloped New Zealand by 84 runs in the group stage and beat Australia in the Super 8s before winning a nail-biting, rain-disrupted clash with Bangladesh to seal their semi-final spot.

South Africa have won seven out of seven at this tournament, coming out on top in tense finishes against Bangladesh and Nepal in Group D and England and the West Indies in crucial Super 8 fixtures.

Those results should boost belief that they can finally get their hands on a trophy and their fast bowlers have a major role to play at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba.

New Zealand quicks Trent Boult, Tim Southee and Lockie Ferguson shared 20 wickets in three group games at the venue while Windies pacer Alzarri Joseph took 4-19 against the Kiwis.

South Africa's Kagiso Rabada bowled only two overs against the West Indies, taking 1-11 as the spinners dominated, but he should play a bigger role in the semi-final.

Rabada claimed 3-18 against the USA and 2-32 against England in the first two Super 8 games and should be backed to be the Proteas' top bowler on Thursday.

Highest individual score - under 60.5 - 5/6

Both teams' bowling attacks have been excellent at this tournament and Afghanistan sealed their place in the last four by defending a total of just 115 against Bangladesh.

Given the tension of the occasion, backing the highest individual score to be under 60.5 could prove profitable.

England's Phil Salt smashed a century in Tarouba last December but the next-highest score in eight T20 internationals at the ground was Sherfane Rutherford's 68 not out in the West Indies' group-stage win over New Zealand.

Afghanistan bowled out Papua New Guinea for 95 at the venue earlier in the tournament before losing their star openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran for 11 and nought and batters are unlikely to have things all their own way in the semi-final.

Rashid Khan to be player of the match - 10/1

Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan has stepped up at big moments at this tournament and he merits a small bet to be named player of the match.

The ace leg-spinner took 4-17 against New Zealand to kickstart his side's campaign and dismissed India stars Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant and Shivam Dube in the Super 8 stage.

He produced a wonderful all-round performance in Tuesday's must-win game against Bangladesh, hitting three late sixes to give his bowlers a modest total to defend, then filleting the Tigers' middle-order to finish with figures of 4-23 from four overs.

Rashid was pipped to the player-of-the-match award by fast bowler Naveen-ul-Haq, who wrapped up the eight-run victory, but his ability to perform under pressure makes him a huge threat to South Africa.
