Royal Challengers Bengaluru v Punjab Kings: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Royal Challengers Bengaluru have had some of the biggest stars in world cricket on their books yet they are still waiting to land a maiden IPL title.

Their 17th campaign began with a six-wicket defeat to defending champions Chennai Super Kings, but they are 8/11 to beat Punjab Kings on home turf on Monday.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru to have highest opening partnership - 4/5

Royal Challengers are never short of batting power and they showcased their depth in Friday's defeat at Chennai, recovering from 78-5 to post 173-6.

Anuj Rawat (48 off 25 balls) and veteran Dinesh Karthik (38 not out off 26) salvaged the innings in RCB's opening game after a middle-order collapse featuring ducks for Rajat Patidar and Glenn Maxwell.

Earlier, Faf du Plessis had made a bright start to the innings, scoring 35 in an opening stand of 41 with Virat Kohli, who went on to make 21 in his first appearance since mid-January.

India legend Kohli should come on for that outing and Bengaluru look a solid bet to have the highest opening partnership at a ground where runs flow freely.

Du Plessis finished as the second-highest runscorer in the 2023 IPL, cracking an unbeaten 79 off 46 balls in an early home game against Lucknow.

And Kohli delighted the Bengaluru crowd on a regular basis last term, making 82 not out against Mumbai, 50 against Delhi, 54 against Kolkata and an unbeaten 101 in his final game of the season against Gujarat.

Punjab Kings know all about the quality of the vastly experienced RCB opening pair, who put on 137 against them in Mohali last season before Bengaluru paceman Mohammed Siraj took a wicket with the second delivery of the Kings' innings.

Du Plessis (88) and Kohli (41 not out) also shone in the March 2022 clash with Punjab, whose openers Shikhar Dhawan and Jonny Bairstow had a frustrating game against Delhi at the weekend.

Dhawan was bowled for a laboured 22 off 16 balls, while Bairstow hit two boundaries in three balls before being run out at the bowler's end and they may struggle to outperform their RCB counterparts.

Arshdeep Singh Punjab Kings top bowler - 4/1

Bowlers tend to arrive at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium with a sense of trepidation given the venue's record of high-scoring matches.

However, Punjab Kings left-armer Arshdeep Singh made a solid start to the season against Delhi, dismissing the dangerous Mitchell Marsh early on and finishing with figures of 2-28 off four overs.

Arshdeep looks a big price to be the Kings' top bowler again, having dismissed Du Plessis once and Karthik twice in his last three games against RCB.

Bowling in the Powerplay and the death overs means he should get more wicket-taking opportunities than most of his teammates and he has impressed in recent international outings for India.

Arshdeep took 3-32 against Afghanistan in his last T20 international in January after claiming 5-37, 1-28 and 4-30 in three ODIs against South Africa the previous month.

Over 19.5 runs scored in a single over - 5/6

With batter-friendly conditions expected on Monday, back over 19.5 runs to be scored in a single over.

There are some destructive hitters in both camps, including RCB's Australian ace Maxwell and Punjab's England internationals Bairstow and Liam Livingstone, who cracked three sixes in his unbeaten 38 against Delhi.

There were a couple of 18-run overs in the Kings' successful run-chase on Saturday and they struck 22, 23 and 24 runs off individual overs against RCB in May 2022 when Bairstow and Livingstone went ballistic.

The most recent IPL game in Bengaluru featured centuries from Kohli and Gujarat star Shubman Gill and there may be more punishment dished out to the bowlers on Monday.
