Rajasthan Royals v Delhi Capitals: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Rajasthan Royals face Delhi Capitals on Thursday and both teams will be hoping for fireworks from their dangerous opening batters.

Rajasthan Royals lost four of their five IPL matches in Jaipur last season but they beat Lucknow Super Giants by 20 runs in their opening home fixture of the 2024 campaign.

The Royals are 4/6 to claim another home win on Thursday when they face Delhi Capitals, whose bowlers struggled in last weekend's four-wicket loss to Punjab Kings.

Rajasthan Royals v Delhi Capitals betting predictions

Rajasthan Royals opening partnership over 27.5 – 10/11

A top-class opening partnership is crucial to the success of any Twenty20 team and Rajasthan Royals have one of the best duos in the IPL.

England's T20 captain Jos Buttler was the leading runscorer in the 2022 tournament, hitting four centuries on his way to a tally of 863 runs in 17 innings.

Buttler's opening partner Yashasvi Jaiswal also has a place in the IPL record books.

Last season he racked up 625 runs, breaking Shaun Marsh's record for the most runs by an uncapped batter, and he also smashed the fastest fifty in IPL history, coming from just 13 balls against Kolkata Knight Riders.

Since last year's IPL, Jaiswal has made a stunning start to his India career. He averages 68.53 after nine Test matches, boosted by two double-centuries in the recent series against England, and has scored a century and four fifties in his first 16 T20 international innings.

The left-handed Jaiswal and right-handed Buttler are a formidable pairing at the top of the order and they should be backed to post a partnership of at least 28 against Delhi.

Buttler was out for 11 in the win over Lucknow but scored 95 off 59 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad in his penultimate home game of the 2023 season.

The in-form Jaiswal smashed 24 from just 12 deliveries in the Royals' season opener and Delhi's new-ball bowlers may struggle to keep the Rajasthan openers quiet.

Mitchell Marsh Delhi Capitals top batter – 7/2

Delhi needed an unbeaten 32 from 10 balls from number nine Abishek Porel to drag them to a total of 174-9 against Punjab on Saturday although Australian openers David Warner and Mitchell Marsh had given the Capitals a fast start.

Marsh walloped two fours and two sixes in his 12-ball 20 and the Aussie's clash with Rajasthan's ace New Zealand fast bowler Trent Boult should be fascinating.

Warner is the most prolific overseas runscorer in IPL history but compatriot Marsh looks a tempting bet to top-score in an unconvincing Delhi batting unit.

Shai Hope, a surprise selection at number three against Punjab, crawled to 33 off 25 balls while captain Rishabh Pant will need time to rediscover his best form after being sidelined since December 2022.

Marsh has a modest IPL record but his T20 performances for Australia suggest he should thrive at the top of the order for the Capitals.

He was man of the match in the 2021 T20 World Cup final win over Boult's New Zealand and cracked an unbeaten 72 from 44 deliveries against the Black Caps in Wellington last month, hitting seven sixes.

Sanju Samson 30+ runs – 1/1

Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson was the inspiration for their opening win over Lucknow, scoring 82 not out from 52 balls.

The 29-year-old Samson needs a spectacular IPL if he is to force his way into India's squad for June's T20 World Cup and he kicked off the campaign in style, hitting six maximums against the Super Giants.

Rajasthan's number three often explodes out of the traps in the IPL. Last season he scored 55 and 42 in the Royals' first two matches while he started off the 2022 campaign with knocks of 55 and 30.

Samson's first innings of the 2021 IPL was a career-best 119 against Punjab and he made 74 and 85 in his first two outings in 2020, hitting 16 sixes in those two innings.

He clearly goes well fresh and the odds about him reaching 30 against the Capitals on Thursday are appealing.
