Bangladesh made history in the first Test as they defeated Pakistan for the first time In Test history with a 10-wicket win in Rawalpindi.

The hosts declared on 448-6 but Mushfiqur Rahim's impressive 191 helped Bangladesh surpass their first innings total and lead by 117.

Pakistan collapsed in the second innings, mustering 146 all out and openers Zakir Hasan and Shadman Islam knocked off the runs in just seven overs to secure Bangladesh with just their second overseas Test victory in seven years.

Defeat has only served to add to the recent woes of the Pakistan Test side, with the Shaheens now without a win on home soil since February 2021 when they overcame South Africa.

Management opted against playing a spinner in pursuit of an all-pace attack in the first Test and it backfired, with Bangladesh spinners Shakib Al Hasan and Hasan Miraz enjoying a productive second innings as they claimed seven of Pakistan's nine wickets.

With Shaheen Afridi absent, Pakistan are expected to turn to leg-spinner Abrar Ahmed to rejuvenate their bowling armoury.

As for the visitors, with their first Test match victory over Pakistan in the bag, Bangladesh now have the opportunity to create more history by claiming the series and they can achieve that with a draw in the second Test.

What may aid that result is the weather forecast, with rain forecast for the opening day and showers are anticipated in spells over the weekend.
