Pakistan v Canada: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Pakistan take on Canada in New York in a Group A clash at the T20 World Cup, with both sides desperate for the win.

For Babar Azam's men, runners-up at the last T20 World Cup, the equation is simple after back-to-back losses against the United States and India - lose, and they are out.

Canada have given themselves a bit of wiggle room by beating Ireland and will be hopeful they are taking on Pakistan at a good time.

Pakistan v Canada betting tips and predictions

Canada to win - 11/2

The idea of a new world order in cricket might seem fanciful, but have no doubt that if the United States can beat Pakistan, so too can Canada.

Canada need a few things in their favour to be able to pull off the greatest win in their brief cricket history - and it looks like the stars have aligned for them.

A Pakistan team down on its luck and out of form, the Canadians themselves feeling chipper after posting a win over Ireland and an unreliable wicket - and they've certainly got that at the Nassau Stadium on Long Island.

And if punters feel the same way then a big price for a Canada win should be a clincher. Given everything we know, they offer genuine value.

Pakistan, former T20 World Cup winners, are masters in the art of throwing in shocking results but somehow rescuing situations. This time, however, their prospects of progressing in the tournament are surely sunk.

And it's clear their problems lie at the top of the order where the Mohammad Rizwan-Babar Azam opening partnership just isn't working.

Thirty runs in the powerplay against the US in Dallas was almost unforgivable - no team on a decent surface goes at five an over in a T20 powerplay.

They managed 35 against India, not much better though in mitigation that game was at the Nassau where the surfaces have been tricky at best, unacceptable (according to many observers) at worst.

In Canada's two powerplays they have amassed 50-1 (in their defeat to the US in Dallas) and 37-2 (in beating Ireland at the Nassau Stadium).

Pakistan have a fabulous bowling attack, pacemen who can exploit the conditions on this ground just as they did restricting India to 119 on Sunday, but a low-scoring game levels the playing field and Canada are being under-rated.

A 50 to be scored - No - 13/8

Matches at the Nassau Stadium just outsider New York have been low-scoring affairs and there is no reason to think this one will be any different.

It's a two-paced wicket with variable bounce, hard to get in on and the outfield is slow.

The five totals racked up by the teams batting first have been 96, 137, 119, 77 and 103. The 137, incidentally, was Canada's total batting first against Ireland.

Ten innings have produced just two individual 50s, scored by India's Rohit Sharma and South Africa's David Miller.

The odds are against a half-century based on previous matches, so 13/8 there isn't one is highly tempting.

Dilon Heyliger Over 1.5 Wickets - 12/5

Dilon Heyliger has been the pick of a decent Canada seam attack with three wickets in two matches.

The Guyana-born paceman took one for 19 in three overs in defeat to the United States in Dallas and bettered that with two for 18 off four in helpful conditions against Ireland at the Nassau Stadium.

Heyliger, who has a five-wicket haul in T20Is to his name, is going to be a handful on that same surface and will be targeting Pakistan's fragile middle order.

He is 3/1 to be top Canada bowler, though if the wickets are shared around maybe the 12/5 he takes over 1.5 wickets is preferable.
