Pakistan v Bangladesh: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Champions Trophy hosts Pakistan are aiming to end a disappointing campaign on a high when they face eliminated Bangladesh in Rawalpindi.

Pakistan v Bangladesh betting tips and predictions

Bangladesh opening partnership - Under 22.5 - 10/11

Pakistan and Bangladesh meet in Group A of the Champions Trophy but neither team can qualify for the semi-finals after losing to India and New Zealand in their first two games.

Tournament hosts Pakistan have not given their fans much to cheer about, losing their opening fixture by 60 runs against New Zealand before a six-wicket defeat to India in Dubai.

Bangladesh's hopes of reaching the semi-finals were swiftly undermined by a top-order collapse against India, who reduced the Tigers to 2-2 and 35-5 last week.

Opener Najmul Hossain Shanto made a solid 77 against New Zealand on Monday but a total of 236-9 never looked enough, even after the early wickets of Will Young (nought) and Kane Williamson (five).

Tuesday's Group B game between Australia and South Africa in Rawalpindi was abandoned without a ball being bowled and rain is also forecast to disrupt the Group A dead rubber.

Overcast, damp conditions should suit the faster bowlers so backing Bangladesh's first wicket to fall before their score reaches 23 looks a good bet.

They lost Soumya Sarkar and Shanto for ducks in their opening game against India, whose pacemen Mohammed Shami and Harshit Rana shared eight wickets in Dubai.

In the most recent ODI between these teams, at the 2023 World Cup, Shaheen Shah Afridi pinned opener Tanzid Hasan lbw for nought in the first over and dismissed Shanto in the third over, leaving the Tigers reeling at 6-2.

The previous month, in the Asia Cup, Bangladesh again had an opening stand of nought and Pakistan new-ball ace Shaheen bowled India skipper Rohit Sharma with a brilliant yorker in the fifth over of Sunday's run-chase.

Saud Shakeel to be Pakistan top batter - 9/2

Sluggish runscoring has hampered both Pakistan and Bangladesh and their batters may struggle to cut loose in their final game of the tournament.

Saud Shakeel looks a decent price to top-score for Pakistan given his strong defensive technique and ability to rotate the strike.

He was pressed into service as an opener against New Zealand after Fakhar Zaman suffered an injury in the field, making only six, but he impressed in the defeat to India.

Coming in at number three, Saud scored a measured 62 off 76 balls before being caught in the deep attempting a big shot off Hardik Pandya.

The hosts have few in-form batsmen in their ranks but Saud loves batting in Rawalpindi, where he made 37 and 76 against England on his Test debut in December 2022.

He scored 134 against the same opponents in a Test match last October, two months after his 141 against Bangladesh in the first Test in Rawalpindi, where he came in with Pakistan in trouble at 16-3.

Taskin Ahmed to be Bangladesh top bowler - 11/4

Bangladesh's bowlers fared better than their batsmen in the defeats to India and New Zealand with Taskin Ahmed delivering a couple of threatening spells with the new ball.

He took 1-36 in nine overs against India, dismissing dangerous opener Rohit, and bowled a wicket maiden in the first over of New Zealand's run-chase.

Taskin bowled Black Caps opener Young with a terrific delivery and conceded only 28 runs in seven overs so he looks the main threat to the home batsmen.

The right-arm quick took the prize wicket of Babar Azam in Bangladesh's World Cup defeat to Pakistan in October 2023, shortly after claiming 4-44 against Afghanistan in Lahore in the Asia Cup.
