ODI Women’s Ashes series: Prediction, Tips and Odds

This weekend marks the return of the multi-format Women's Ashes, which begins with the first of three one-day internationals on Saturday.

As has been the case since 2013, the series will feature three ODIs, three T20s and one Test match with two points up for grabs for each limited-overs victory and four available for a Test triumph. In the event of a Test draw, both teams will receive two points.

Australia retained the Ashes in 2023 but England gained plenty of plaudits after they played out an 8-8 draw across all matches.

This time, however, it is Australia who are hosts and they are 1/6 to win the Women's Ashes, while England are 7/1 shots and the draw is 8/1.

As for the ODI series, Australia are a touch bigger at 1/4 with England 3/1 shots.

Australia Women to win ODI series 2-1 - 5/4

It was in the shorter formats that England flourished in their home Ashes series two years ago, winning both the ODI series and the T20 series by 2-1 scorelines.

Australia dug deep to win the sole Test match, meaning the scores finished level overall and the tourists retained the Ashes.

But England showed plenty of heart and they head into this ODI series in great form in the format.

Since losing 3-0 to India at home back in September 2022, England Women have won eight ODI series on the spin and they can be expected to make life tough for Australia.

That said, the Ashes hosts have also impressed in the ODI format, recently taking down T20 World Cup winners New Zealand 2-0, while they were also 3-0 winners at home against India.

The bottom line is this Australia crop are seriously stern opponents on their own patch and there is a reason they are 1/4 to win the ODI series.

But a whitewash may not be on the cards and there is value in backing Australia to win this ODI series 2-1 in the correct score market at 5/4.

In the 2023 Women's Ashes, the ODI series went down to the wire with England winning the final ODI by 69 runs via DLS method, bowling Australia Women out for 199.

Kate Cross was the star of the show in that ODI with figures of 3-48 and her return to the squad is the big news heading into this year's Women's Ashes after she missed the recent Test against South Africa due to back spasms.

Looking at the first ODI, which will take place at the North Sydney Oval, Cross is a 7/2 shot to be England Women's top wicket-taker while Sophia Ecclestone is 11/4 and Charlie Dean is 3/1.

In the batting department, the usual suspects lead the betting for the first ODI for Australia.

Phoebe Litchfield is a 15/4 shot to be the Aussie’s leading run scorer, while Ellyse Perry, who scored 185 runs in the ODI series in 2023, is also priced at 15/4.

For punters after a bit of value, though, Annabel Sutherland might stand out at 6/1 after she was named player of the series against New Zealand recently, scoring 105 not out and 42.

It is set to be a gripping Women's Ashes and it could well go down to the final Test match once again, but Australia can get their revenge on England in the ODI series this time around.
