Northern Superchargers v Manchester Originals: Prediction, Tips and Odds

After their 19-run win over the Oval Invincibles, the Northern Superchargers will feel that they can kick on and pick up a routine victory when they host the Manchester Originals at Headingley on Sunday.

The Invincibles are the favourites to go all the way in The Hundred, but they were pegged back by Andrew Flintoff's side on Friday evening.

Flintoff's side have now won two from their first three games, while the Originals remain winless under Simon Katich.

Northern Superchargers to win - 4/7

Having lost their final five games in last year's Hundred, the Northern Superchargers were not expected to challenge for silverware this year.

That theory only gained more traction when they fell to a 47-run defeat in their opening fixture against the Trent Rockets last month.

Despite seeing their losing streak extend to six matches after the opening defeat, the Superchargers bounced back in their second match, beating the Southern Brave by seven wickets at Headingley.

On Friday, they made their biggest statement of the tournament so far by beating the Invincibles by 19 runs at the Kia Oval, and there's plenty to be positive about for Flintoff.

The same cannot be said of the Originals, who have tasted defeat in each of their three games.

They finished second in the standings last season before losing in the final to the Invincibles by 14 runs.

There's the sense of a hangover from that final defeat, and if Katich's team are feeling sorry for themselves, the Superchargers will punish them.

Nicholas Pooran to score 30+ runs - 1/1

West Indies ace Pooran has rewarded the Superchargers' faith in him already this season and he looks in fine fettle heading into Sunday's encounter.

Pooran was selected by the Superchargers with the first pick in The Hundred draft for the 2024 campaign, and he has since hit 137 runs in three innings.

After a slow start, the 29-year-old hit 62 runs from 34 balls against the Southern Brave as he was named Match Hero, and he won the same award again on Friday, having cracked 65 not out in his team's success over the Invincibles.

Pooran is the only player so far to have hit two fifties, while he has hit a season-high 10 sixes from 90 balls.

His average of 68.5 suggests he has quickly found his groove, and he should put up another decent total on home soil.

Phil Salt - Over 31.5 player performance - 5/6

After a poor start, the Originals need some inspiration and captain Salt will hope to finally have his say.

The Welshman has scored a measly 23 runs in three innings, but he remains the leading run scorer in men's Hundred history and it is surely only a matter of time before he gets going in this year's competition.

Salt's 730 runs from 30 innings at an average of 25.17 is not to be sniffed at, but his current form with the bat means the Player Performance market is a safer bet.

Salt will earn one point per run, but as the Originals wicketkeeper, he could also earn 25 points per stumping and 10 points per catch.

Should the Originals shine with the ball, Salt would only need to chip in a few runs to cover the Player Performance line.

With Jos Buttler ruled out of the tournament with a calf injury, Salt needs to stand up and lead by example, and he should be able to do that in a derby encounter.
