Northern Superchargers are eyeing up a play-off place in The Hundred and captain Harry Brook will hope to inspire them to a win over London Spirit at Headingley on Tuesday.

Spirit have had a tough season in The Hundred, losing six of their seven matches, while Superchargers are on course for the play-offs, although they will have to cope without Ben Stokes.

Superchargers produced a stunning finish to their innings against Manchester Originals on Sunday, reaching a target of 153 despite crawling to 38-2 from their first 50 balls.

That win took the Superchargers back into the top three and a home victory over Spirit on Tuesday should seal their place in the play-offs.

Stokes' hamstring injury means the hosts must reshuffle their opening partnership and bottom-of-the-table Spirit could strike an early blow with the ball at Headingley.

Superchargers' success with the bat has been largely due to their powerful middle-order, so they should be backed to have an opening stand of under 20.5.

Even before Stokes pulled up attempting a quick single on Sunday, his opening partner Matthew Short had been dismissed with the score on two from seven balls.

Superchargers' previous five first-wicket partnerships had been five, four, nought, 16 and 26 and Spirit have generally used the new ball well.

They were hammered by nine wickets against Oval Invincibles on Sunday, but Olly Stone dismissed Invincibles opener Will Jacks for two.

Fellow fast bowler Richard Gleeson took early wickets in London's previous two games, when the Originals and Trent Rockets had opening stands of three and four.

And Invincibles were 4-1 off 12 balls in their first clash of the season with Spirit at Lord's, where Stone again got rid of the dangerous Jacks for two.

Nicholas Pooran's unbeaten 66, featuring eight sixes, sealed Superchargers' success at Old Trafford, but skipper Harry Brook had started his side's fightback against Originals.

The England star is enjoying his first taste of captaincy under coach Andrew Flintoff and he cracked 43 off 26 balls to set up Pooran's spectacular finish to Sunday's innings.

With Stokes sidelined, Brook will shoulder even more responsibility with the bat and he has already played a couple of eye-catching innings at Headingley this season.

He took Superchargers over the line against Southern Brave with a breezy unbeaten 34 from 20 balls, before top-scoring with 58 off 33 in the home game against Originals on 4th August.

Northern Superchargers highest individual score - over 51.5 @ 5/6

After away trips to Birmingham, Cardiff and Manchester, Superchargers finish their league campaign back at Headingley, where conditions have been good for batting over the past couple of seasons.

Three of the six highest individual scores in The Hundred last summer came at the Leeds venue and backing any Superchargers batter to make over 51.5 looks a good bet.

They conceded 185-5 against Rockets in their first home game of 2024, when Superchargers number eight Ben Dwarshuis walloped 40 not out off 20 balls in a losing cause.

Next time out the hosts beat Brave thanks to Pooran's 62 off 34 deliveries and in their third home fixture of the summer Brook scored 58 before Originals openers Phil Salt (40) and Matthew Hurst (78) shared an opening stand of 90.
