Mumbai Indians v Sunrisers Hyderabad: Prediction, Tips and Odds

The Wankhede Stadium is the scene for a battle between two teams desperate to climb the IPL ladder on Thursday as Mumbai Indians host Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Both teams find themselves in the bottom half of the table after difficult starts to the campaign.

The Indians, who have finished bottom of the pile in two of the last three seasons, lost their opening two matches before finally gaining some traction with a home win over the reigning champions Kolkata Knight Riders.

Despite losing two more contests, their batting began to fire at the start of April and they come into this clash off the back of their best all-round display - a 12-run victory over the high-flying Delhi Capitals.

Sunrisers, meanwhile, are fresh from a stunning win over Punjab Kings, where Abhishek Sharma’s blistering 141 off 55 balls powered them to the second-highest run chase in IPL history.

However, that performance was a rare bright spot in an otherwise turbulent season for the Hyderabad outfit.

Mumbai have won five of their last seven matches against the Sunrisers, who have lost 10 of 13 matches at Wankhede Stadium.

Mumbai Indians v Sunrisers Hyderabad betting tips and predictions

Team to Make Highest 1st 6 Overs Score - Sunrisers Hyderabad @ 1/1

Sunrisers have consistently prioritised attacking the powerplay overs, giving free rein to their aggressive and innovative openers.

Abhishek’s huge ton at the weekend, which featured 14 fours and 10 sixes, was backed up by a crafty 66 off 37 balls from Travis Head.

This duo look very hard to contain and they have helped Pat Cummins’ side post some incredible powerplay scores this year, including 83 without loss against Punjab Kings and a record-breaking 94-1 against Rajasthan Royals.

Together, they hold the record for the most productive powerplay in IPL history - a 125-run stand against Delhi last year.

Their chemistry and ability to exploit fielding restrictions make their team an attractive option to better the Indians’ total after six overs.

Mumbai’s bowlers have struggled to contain opposition batters in the powerplay this season and in their recent win over the Capitals, Delhi’s Karun Nair dismantled their attack.

The impact sub scored 26 runs off Jasprit Bumrah alone as his team eclipsed Mumbai’s powerplay total of 59 easily, reaching 72-1 after six overs of the chase.

Cummins’ men rank higher than Mumbai in terms of powerplay strikerates this season (152.22 vs. 144.44) and, in terms of powerplay run rates in 2025, the Indians’ 9.22 is inferior to the Sunrisers’ 10.41, which is currently the third best in the IPL.

Abhishek Sharma 50+ Runs @ 11/4

After his sensational 141 against Punjab, Abhishek is the man in form for Hyderabad. His fearless approach in the powerplay can put any attack on the back foot and, if he gets going, Mumbai’s bowlers will have their work cut out.

The left-hander will relish this return to Wankhede Stadium, renowned for its true surface and short boundaries. In February, he made his second T20 international ton against England at the Mumbai venue.

Abhishek peppered the boundaries that day with 13 sixes and seven fours in his knock of 135 off 54 balls.

And, although he had endured a string of low scores before his match-winning innings against Kings, that should provide the spark for the 24-year-old to make another notable score.

Total Match Runs - Over 382.5 @ 5/6

Wankhede Stadium has, generally speaking, been a paradise for batters and it should help both teams’ explosive top orders to cash in.

Mumbai’s last home fixture saw them post 205-5, their second-highest total of the season, while Sunrisers’ ultra-aggressive approach has already produced a 247-run chase this year.

The Indians will look to their high-calibre duo of Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav to go toe-to-toe with Head and Abhishek in a range-hitting duel, so expect fireworks from the outset.

Mumbai’s batting average of 173.5 runs per innings is below par, but their recent form suggests an upward trend, especially with Suryakumar and Kishan finding their rhythm.

With both sides’ bowling attacks still being prone to leaking runs - Hyderabad conceding nearly 200 per game and Mumbai’s attack searching for consistency - this contest is primed for a run-fest.
