Manchester Originals and Trent Rockets could hardly have made more contrasting starts to the men's Hundred this season.

While the Originals sustained an eight-wicket defeat to Welsh Fire in their opener on Thursday, Trent Rockets ran out 47-run winners against Northern Superchargers one day later.

The two teams find themselves at opposing ends of the table ahead of their clash at Old Trafford on Monday but there is a long way to go this season in the franchise competition.

Trent Rockets exploded out of the blocks on Friday and it is hard to see anything but another win for them when they clash with Manchester Originals.

The Rockets defeated Andrew Flintoff's star-studded Northern Superchargers team by 47 runs last time out, amassing an eyewatering 185 runs at Headingley.

There were some seriously impressive individual performances in that match for the Rockets with openers Adam Lyth (12) and Tom Banton (66) reaching 44 off just 23 balls before the loss of the first wicket.

Sam Hain, meanwhile, maintained the momentum with 49 off 28 balls before Chris Green starred with both bat and ball, clubbing 25 off just seven deliveries to help set an imposing target and then finishing with bowling figures of 3-14 to undermine the run chase.

The Rockets looked up for it in their opener and they are a solid bet to defeat the Originals, who could only rack up 86 runs against Welsh Fire in their opening loss.

Phil Salt was tasked with captaining the side and the availability of Jos Buttler, who could yet miss the entirety of The Hundred with a calf injury, remains in doubt.

The jury is still out on whether or not Buttler will feature for Manchester Originals in The Hundred this season and the added burden of captaincy is not going to do Salt any favours.

The Manchester opener endured a poor start to the season, going for a duck against Welsh Fire after just two deliveries.

That was not exactly an anomalous performance from Salt, either, with the England ace having not been at his best in the shorter formats.

With the exception of an unbeaten 87 against West Indies, Salt struggled to impose himself at the T20 World Cup and his last seven T20 international scores were 37, 12, 11, 87 not out, 11, 25 not out and five.

Back him to fall short of his runs line of 23.5.

Sam Hain - Trent Rockets Top Batter - 10/3

From an out-of-form batter to an in-form one, Hain looks a value pick to top score for Trent Rockets in this contest.

Not only did Hain fall just one run short of a half-century in Trent Rockets' opening match of this tournament but he also dazzled during the T20 Blast earlier this year, scoring 554 runs in 12 innings.

There are a handful of players capable of stepping up to the plate for the Rockets but few are enjoying as strong a summer as Hain.

Hain's opportunities were more limited in The Hundred last season but he still racked up 132 runs for the Rockets and he is a serious threat batting at four.
