Kolkata Knight Riders v Sunrisers Hyderabad: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Kolkata Knight Riders finished top of the IPL regular-season standings and they are aiming to frank that form in Tuesday's play-off Qualifier 1 against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Ahmedabad.

Kolkata Knight Riders to win @ 10/11

The Knight Riders and Sunrisers served up a thriller at Eden Gardens in only the third match of the 2024 IPL season and they meet again in the first game of the play-offs.

The Sunrisers, chasing 209 for victory, came up four runs short in Kolkata and Tuesday's Qualifier 1 clash could be another cracker.

Both teams have produced some sensational batting displays this season. They are responsible for five of the seven highest totals of the campaign, including the Sunrisers' record-breaking 287-3 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

Ahmedabad, venue for the first two play-off fixtures, could offer some respite for bowlers and Kolkata's all-round quality means they get the nod in the match betting.

KKR were denied the chance to assess conditions at the Narendra Modi Stadium on 13th May when their fixture against Gujarat Titans was washed out and Sunday's final league game against Rajasthan Royals was also abandoned without a ball being bowled.

Phil Salt has returned to England to prepare for the T20 World Cup, breaking up a terrific opening partnership with Sunil Narine, but KKR have won seven of their last nine meetings with the Sunrisers.

Narine and fellow spinner Varun Chakravarthy starred in their last completed match, a win over Mumbai Indians and they should be encouraged by Hyderabad's visit to Ahmedabad in March.

The Sunrisers' power-packed batters were tamed by Gujarat's bowlers, crawling to 162-8 on their way to a seven-wicket defeat.

Captain Pat Cummins has sparked a spectacular resurgence at Hyderabad, who finished bottom of the table last season, but they may struggle to prevent classy Kolkata reaching Sunday's final.

Abhishek Sharma - Sunrisers Hyderabad Top Batter @ 4/1

If the Sunrisers are to claim their spot in the final in Chennai then opener Abhishek Sharma may need to continue his eye-catching form.

In company with Australia star Travis Head, Abhishek has given Hyderabad some stunning starts - most notably when they chased down 166 in just 9.4 overs to beat Lucknow by 10 wickets.

The 23-year-old smashed 75 not out off 28 balls in that victory and followed up with 66 off 28 against Punjab Kings on Sunday, when Head was dismissed for a first-ball duck.

Abhishek was one of Hyderabad's more fluent batters in their defeat to Gujarat in Ahmedabad, scoring 29 from 20 deliveries, and he could rise to the occasion on Tuesday.

Highest Match Individual Score - Under 82.5 @ 5/6

Gujarat openers Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill both scored centuries in the last completed match in Ahmedabad, but it may be worth going under a highest individual score line of 82.5 in the Qualifier 1.

There have only been two totals of more than 200 in 12 innings at the Narendra Modi Stadium this season and Sudharsan's 45 was the highest knock in Hyderabad's league defeat at the venue on 31st March.

While both batting units are respected, there are a host of vastly experienced bowlers on show, with Hyderabad pacemen Cummins and Bhuvneshwar Kumar up against KKR's Narine, Chakravarthy, Mitchell Starc and Andre Russell.

Both teams' explosive batting depth means no player is expected to anchor the innings. Openers Narine and Head have each made one century this season, but neither side had another individual score in excess of 89 during the league stage.
