Kent Spitfires vs Gloucestershire Tips, Predictions and Bet Builder

Gloucestershire won the T20 Blast last summer, thrashing rivals Somerset by eight wickets in the final, but their title defence has not gone according to plan.

The holders have lost their first five South Group matches, beginning with a four-run home defeat to Kent Spitfires on 30th May.

Kent have made a solid start to the T20 season, winning three of their five completed games, and they are favourites to complete a double over Gloucestershire in Canterbury.

Kent Spitfires vs Gloucestershire Prediction

Best Bet: David Payne to be Gloucestershire top bowler @ 9/4

Left-arm fast bowler David Payne was one of Gloucestershire's heroes last summer, when he was the leading wicket-taker in the T20 Blast with 33 scalps.

Despite his side's winless start to the 2025 season, Payne remains a huge threat in the Powerplay and the death overs and he should be backed to be Gloucestershire's top bowler.

He was wicketless in the opening defeat to Kent but has responded impressively, taking 3-24, 1-14, 1-15 and 2-43 in four subsequent appearances.

James Milton explains:

David Payne cemented his status as a Gloucestershire legend in last year's Blast and he should pose a huge threat to Kent's batsmen at both ends of the innings on Wednesday.

Kent Spitfires vs Gloucestershire Bet Builder Tip

  • Kent to hit most sixes
  • Sam Billings 20+ runs
  • Nathan Gilchrist 2+ wickets

Pays 6/1

Kent to hit most sixes is the first leg of this Bet Builder. Gloucestershire struck 13 maximums in their opening defeat to the Spitfires but have cleared the ropes only 14 times in their last four matches.

Spitfires skipper Sam Billings has had a quiet start to the Blast but he can bounce back to form in Canterbury, where he averaged 39 in seven T20 games last summer.

Nathan Gilchrist dismissed two of Gloucestershire's top four batters in Kent's win in Bristol and he may well strike at least twice in the return fixture.

James Milton adds:

Even without England batter Zak Crawley, Kent should win the sixes battle against out-of-form Gloucestershire. Home captain Sam Billings scored a brilliant Blast century against Somerset in Canterbury last year and Nathan Gilchrist can pick up at least two wickets.

Tactics, Form and Team News

Kent's Zak Crawley has joined up with England's Test squad after scores of 37, 57, 46 and 75 not out in his four T20 Blast appearances.

Opener Tawanda Muyeye has also been a consistent runscorer, reaching 20 in all six of his innings and putting on 98 for the first wicket with Daniel Bell-Drummond against Gloucestershire in Bristol.

The pair made an even better start to set up Sunday's four-run win over Somerset as Muyeye (70) and Bell-Drummond (100) shared a stand of 158 in 13.2 overs.

Australia paceman Wes Agar conceded 51 runs in just two overs at Taunton but he had dismissed Surrey stars Will Jacks, Jason Roy and Sam Curran in Kent's previous South Group fixture.

Veteran Joe Denly will be assessed after missing the win at Somerset but his nephew Jaydn Denly is fit again. Chris Benjamin (shoulder) remains sidelined.

Expected Kent Spitfires lineup: 1. Tawanda Muyeye, 2. Daniel Bell-Drummond, 3. Sam Billings (c & wk), 4. Harry Finch, 5. Jack Leaning, 6. Tom Rogers, 7. Grant Stewart, 8. Joey Evison, 9. Wes Agar, 10. Fred Klaassen, 11. Nathan Gilchrist.

Gloucestershire brought in spinners Graeme van Buuren and Tom Smith for Sunday's home fixture against Glamorgan, who won by 40 runs at Bristol's County Ground.

James Bracey was left out of the 11 so opener Cameron Bancroft kept wicket although Ben Charlesworth's lean run with the bat means Bracey could be recalled on Wednesday.

Kent may consider using spin against Bancroft's opening partner Miles Hammond, who was dismissed for a nine-ball duck by Glamorgan slow bowler Imad Wasim on Sunday.

Expected Gloucestershire lineup: 1. Miles Hammond, 2. Cameron Bancroft (wk), 3. D'Arcy Short, 4. Oliver Price, 5. Jack Taylor (c), 6. Ben Charlesworth, 7. Graeme van Buuren, 8. Zaman Akhter, 9. David Payne, 10. Ajeet Singh Dale, 11. Tom Smith.
