India v England second T20I: Prediction, Tips and Odds

India comfortably defeated England in the first T20I of the series and the hosts will be eyeing another success when they meet for the second match.

India are likely to stick with their winning combination, although there is a chance that Mohammed Shami may return to the XI after over a year on the sidelines.

The experienced pacer's inclusion could see one of the spinners make way, as India might opt for a more balanced attack in Chennai.

England have opted to replace Gus Atkinson with Brydon Carse, while Jamie Smith has been added to the squad as cover for the ill Jacob Bethell.

Varun Chakaravarthy to be top match bowler - 10/3

The MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai is renowned for its spin-friendly pitches, which will favour India for a couple of reasons.

Their spinners performed better than England’s slow bowlers in Kolkata, taking a combined 5-67 off 12 overs while the tourists’ tweakers toiled - going at more than 10 an over and snaring only one victim.

India’s batters play spin much more judiciously than England’s top order, who appeared flummoxed by the two leg-spinners.

Ravi Bishnoi bowled a tight spell, going for only two boundaries, but his performance was eclipsed by Varun Chakaravarthy.

The 33-year-old, who was recalled after a three-year international hiatus in October, deceived Harry Brook and Liam Livingstone with a series of overspin deliveries that effectively decided the match.

England were 61-2 and going well after seven overs before Chakaravarthy struck with the third ball of his second over, sneaking a wrong’un through the gap between Brook’s bat and pad

And he repeated the trick two balls later to turn the match India’s way, aided by a bit of drift and a poor shot by Livingstone.

The England batters will have been studying footage of the leg-spinner in between matches to determine the best way of playing him, but some of the best in the world have been undone during Chakaravarthy’s late-career renaissance.

In just eight matches since his international return, he has taken 20 wickets at an impressive average of 11.7 and an economy rate of 7.31.

That run follows an impressive Indian Premier League campaign when he took 21 wickets to aid the Kolkata Knight Riders’ charge to the title.

India Match Handicap -5.5 wkts/-18.5 runs - 10/11

India served up an all-round treat for the fans in Kolkata and they should be capable of reproducing that display on Saturday.

The Men in Blue bowled and fielded brilliantly, before finishing off the job with the bat.

Gautam Gambhir’s men raced to the paltry target of 133 with more than seven overs to spare.

The margin of India’s seven-wicket victory was no great surprise because very few white-ball matches involving England have been anything you could call close recently.

The team’s all-or-nothing approach in the West Indies late last year resulted in the four completed matches being decided by eight wickets, seven wickets, three wickets and five wickets.

If the hosts win the toss and elect to bowl first again because of the potential for dew, England’s attack will be up against it once more with the potential for another wide-margin defeat.

Meanwhile, India have won seven of their last eight T20Is and six of those victories have been achieved by more than 19 runs or at least six wickets.

India to hit the most match sixes - 8/11

Thanks to the brutal innings of 79 off 34 balls by Abhishek Sharma in Kolkata, India got ahead of the asking rate early and stayed there.

The Men in Blue have unearthed a real talent at the top of the order and, unlike some of their previous opening stars, the 24-year-old has the power to clear the ropes.

Sharma’s eight sixes in the match were five more than England’s entire team could manage on Wednesday.

And with fellow opener Sanju Samson having hit 28 maximums in his last six T20Is, India have a pretty scary combination ready to exploit the Powerplay fielding restrictions.
