Essex and Kent Spitfires, who meet in Chelmsford on Tuesday, are level on 12 points from five matches in this season's T20 Blast South Group.
The teams had contrasting results on Sunday, however. Essex eased to a third straight win on their trip to Middlesex while Kent suffered a seven-wicket defeat to Sussex in Hove.
Best Bet - Essex to win @ 1/1
Alternative Bet - Paul Walter to be Essex top batter @ 11/2
Bet Builder - A fifty to be scored, Charlie Allison 1+ six & Charlie Bennett 2+ wickets @ 6/1
Best Bet: Essex to win @ 1/1
Hampshire are well clear at the top of the T20 Blast South Group, but two of the chasing pack, Essex and Kent Spitfires, meet in a crucial fixture in Chelmsford.
Essex have hit their stride after a slow start to the Blast and Sunday's 60-run win over Middlesex was their third straight victory in the competition.
Middlesex are a poor T20 side but it was still an impressive effort from Essex. Middle-order batters Charlie Allison (61) and Luc Benkenstein (67) rebuilt the innings before a ruthless bowling display skittled their hosts for 116.
Essex's first win of the season was a resounding nine-wicket success against Kent in Canterbury and they look good value to complete the double over the Spitfires.
Simon Harmer's side followed up with a five-wicket victory against Derbyshire in their last home game in Chelmsford and Kent's batting unit has failed to fire recently.
They were restricted to 129-9 in last month's reverse fixture and scraped a total of 133-8 in their defeat to Sussex on Sunday, when England internationals Zak Crawley and Sam Billings both made ducks.
Alternative Bet: Paul Walter to be Essex top batter @ 11/2
Paul Walter missed out for Essex against Middlesex, falling for seven in the second over, but the opener is a big price to top-score on Tuesday.
He has formed a powerful partnership with Michael Pepper at the top of the order and the pair put on 110 in 11.1 overs in May's away win over Kent.
Walter's first two Blast scores at Chelmsford this season were 58 against Sussex and 41 against Derbyshire and he has reached 40 in three of his last four T20 innings against Kent.
A fifty to be scored
Charlie Allison 1+ six
Charlie Bennett 2+ wickets
Pays 6/1
A fifty to be scored looks a good Bet Builder selection on Tuesday. Essex have had six half-centuries in five T20 Blast games this season and last year's meeting in Chelmsford produced individual scores of 100, 55 and 50.
Charlie Allison has scored 18 not out, 67 not out and 61 in three Blast innings for Essex this summer, hitting seven sixes. He should clear the ropes at least once against Kent.
Essex seamer Charlie Bennett has made a big impact in 2026, picking up nine wickets in five games, and his best figures of 3-25 came in the away win over Kent.
