Australia's 28-run victory at the Rose Bowl on Wednesday edged them into a 12-11 lead in their T20I head-to-head record against England.

The win was set up by Australia opener Travis Head's blistering innings of 59 off 23 balls. The left-hander, who smashed 80 from just 25 deliveries in this month's first T20I against Scotland, has reached 50 inside the Powerplay overs seven times in T20 cricket this year.

Spin proved effective at the Rose Bowl, where Liam Livingstone was England's most successful bowler with 3-22 and ace leg-spinners Adil Rashid and Adam Zampa claimed 1-23 and 2-20 from their four overs.

England opener Will Jacks was dismissed for six in the first T20I and he will be desperate to make a significant contribution in Cardiff.

Batting in the top three, Jacks has reached 25 in only two of his 16 T20I innings and his career-best score of 40 came on his debut against Pakistan in September 2022.

England v Australia second T20I team news

England team news

Phil Salt is captaining England in this series as Jos Buttler is sidelined with a calf injury. Jordan Cox and Jacob Bethell made their debuts on Wednesday and fast bowlers Brydon Carse and John Turner, along with uncapped all-rounder Dan Mousley, are hoping for an opportunity in Cardiff.

Australia team news

Australia's fast-bowling resources are stretched as Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins have been rested and Xavier Bartlett suffered a side strain in the opening game. Fellow quicks Nathan Ellis and Spencer Johnson were already sidelined so Riley Meredith is likely to feature on Friday.
