England v Australia second ODI betting tips and predictions

Australia highest individual score - Over 90.5 - 5/6

An inexperienced England side let slip a strong position in Thursday's first ODI against Australia and they are 13/10 to level the five-match series at Headingley.

Stand-in England captain Harry Brook faces a daunting challenge at his home ground as Australia have won their last 13 50-over internationals.

The Aussies lost their first two matches at last year's World Cup before moving through the gears to shock tournament hosts India in the final.

Opener Travis Head scored a matchwinning 137 in the World Cup final in Ahmedabad and he was outstanding in Thursday's series opener, scoring an unbeaten 154 as Australia chased down 316 with ease.

England were far less ruthless with the bat, slipping from 213-2 to 315 all out against the Aussie spinners and backing any Australia batsman to score over 90.5 looks a good bet at Headingley.

Head is the main threat, having scored five centuries and six fifties in 24 innings since being recalled to the ODI team in 2022.

However, Steve Smith (32) and Marnus Labuschagne (77 not out) also looked in good nick at Trent Bridge and Headingley has been a fertile ground for overseas batsmen in recent years.

South Africa's Quinton de Kock was unbeaten on 92 from just 76 balls when rain ruined England's most recent ODI in Leeds in 2022.

And in the previous 50-over international at the venue, during the 2019 World Cup, Sri Lanka's Angelo Mathews scored 113 before India openers KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma responded with 111 and 103.

Will Jacks England top batter - 4/1

Ben Duckett fell five runs short of a second ODI century for England on Thursday and Will Jacks played an enterprising innings at number three.

Jacks scored 62 from 56 balls before attempting one too many big shots off the bowling of ace leg-spinner Adam Zampa and he should be backed to top-score at Headingley.

The Surrey all-rounder needed a confidence boost after a lean T20 series and he also bowled six economical overs of off-spin in the first ODI.

Before his classy half-century against Australia, Jacks's last five ODI scores had been 94 and 39 against Ireland and 26, 73 and 17 against the West Indies and he can seize his opportunity in the absence of several senior batters.

Marnus Labuschagne over 42.5 performance points - 5/6

Just as he did in the World Cup final, Marnus Labuschagne played the perfect supporting role to Head in Thursday's run-chase, having also impressed in the field.

Labuschagne had to work hard early in his innings before cutting loose to finish unbeaten on 77 from 61 balls and he can clear a performance-points line of 42.5 on Saturday.

He picked up the wickets of Duckett, Brook and Jofra Archer in six overs of leg-spin at Trent Bridge and took four catches, two of them off his own bowling.

That gave Labuschagne a performance make-up of 177 and he is an all-action cricketer, scoring 50 not out against Kent and taking 5-11 against Somerset in his last two T20 Blast appearances for Glamorgan in July.
