England v Australia fourth ODI: Prediction, Tips and Odds

England kept their hopes of winning the five-match series against Australia alive with victory in Tuesday's third ODI and Racing Post's James Milton gives his top tips for Friday's fourth game at Lord's.

England v Australia betting tips and predictions

Australia -2.5 wickets/-13.5 runs on match handicap @ 10/11

England ended Australia's 14-match winning streak in ODI cricket with an impressive 46-run victory on the DLS method at Chester-le-Street on Tuesday.

Stand-in captain Harry Brook scored a terrific unbeaten century, sharing a matchwinning third-wicket stand with Will Jacks, but England may be brought back down to earth in the fourth ODI at Lord's.

Australia have won six of their last seven one-dayers against England at the Home of Cricket and they should welcome back two key players as they bid to take an unassailable 3-1 lead in the series.

Opener Travis Head, who scored 154 not out in the first ODI, and leg-spinner Adam Zampa, who claimed 3-49 and 1-42 in two appearances, have both been passed fit after sitting out the Durham defeat.

The Aussies are a different proposition with those two in the team and Zampa's absence undoubtedly helped England's recovery from 11-2 to 254-4 on Tuesday.

With the notable exception of England's Super Over win over New Zealand in the 2019 World Cup final, recent ODIs at Lord's have tended to be one-sided.

The last 10 matches, other than the nail-biting World Cup final, have been decided by margins of 100 runs, 100 runs, 52 runs, 94 runs, 86 runs, 64 runs, 49 runs, 86 runs, seven wickets and 85 runs.

That suggests Australia backers should take the slightly bigger odds about the tourists on the match handicap as Mitchell Marsh's men won the first two ODIs by seven wickets and 68 runs.

Mitchell Starc Australia top bowler @ 11/4

Australia's Mitchell Starc was outstanding in the 2019 World Cup group stage victory over England at Lord's, dismissing Joe Root, Eoin Morgan and Ben Stokes on his way to figures of 4-43.

Left-arm fast bowlers have had great success in Lord's ODIs recently. Reece Topley took 6-24 for England against India in 2022, while Pakistan's Shaheen Shah Afridi (6-35 against Bangladesh) and Australia's Jason Behrendorff (5-44 against England) starred at the 2019 World Cup.

Starc also took 5-26 against runners-up New Zealand in St John's Wood during that tournament and he should be backed to be Australia's top bowler on Friday.

A damp, cloudy day is in prospect, aiding the seamers and Australia's strike bowler has picked up five wickets in his first two appearances of the series.

Will Jacks England top batter @ 5/1

England have named an inexperienced squad for their ODI series against the world champions and only veteran spinner Adil Rashid has more than 30 caps in the format.

It offers a great opportunity for younger players to enhance their reputations and Jacks, despite a golden duck in game two, has seized his chance.

He dovetailed superbly with Brook on Tuesday, contributing 84 off 82 balls in England's successful run-chase, having also batted well in the first ODI at Trent Bridge.

The Surrey man, coming in at number three, scored 62 off 56 with five boundaries and two sixes, and he is a tempting price to top-score for the hosts in the fourth ODI.

Jacks has limited 50-over experience, but he has been player of the match in three of his last T20 Blast appearances for Surrey against Middlesex at Lord's and may well shine in St John's Wood again.
