Australia Women v England Women first ODI betting tips and predictions

Nat Sciver-Brunt to be England Top Batter - 10/3

England Women have had limited time to prepare for the first ODI against Australia Women as their only tour match was cut short by rain.

The 2024/25 Ashes series consists of three ODIs, three T20 internationals and a one-off Test match and England are aiming to build on their promising 8-8 draw in the 2023 home series.

Bad weather denied their batters any time in the middle when they faced the Governor-General XI at North Sydney Oval, which is also the venue for the ODI series opener.

It may pay to back Nat Sciver-Brunt, the class act in the England top order, to top-score for her side in the first game of the series.

Sciver-Brunt's last international appearance came in December's Test match against South Africa Women in Bloemfontein, where she scored 128 and 37.

She has made scores of 57 not out, 59 and 67 not out in her last three T20 innings for England and is a brilliant batter in 50-over cricket too.

After a lean ODI series in South Africa, where she was dismissed for nought, 20 and nought, Sciver-Brunt can bounce back against one of her favourite opponents.

She has a sensational ODI record against the Aussies, scoring 998 runs at an average of 62.37, and she was the leading runscorer on either side in the 50-over leg of the 2021/22 Ashes down under.

Her magnum opus against Australia was a stunning knock of 148 not out off 121 balls in the 2022 World Cup final in Christchurch and she should be backed to lead England's charge with the bat.

Annabel Sutherland to hit most match sixes - 11/2

The future looks bright for Australia Women after the emergence of talented young batters Phoebe Litchfield and Georgia Voll, while 23-year-old all-rounder Annabel Sutherland has already made a significant impact at international level.

Sutherland scored back-to-back ODI centuries against India and New Zealand in December and is a tempting bet to hit the most sixes in the first ODI.

North Sydney Oval can be a good six-hitting ground and Australia opener Beth Mooney cleared the ropes four times in her ODI century against Pakistan in January 2023.

Later in that innings, Sutherland chipped in with two sixes during a brutal cameo of 26 from 13 balls and she struck six maximums in her tons against India and New Zealand.

Ash Gardner to take over 1.5 wickets - 6/5

England spinners Sophie Ecclestone and Charlie Dean shared five wickets in 10 overs before the rain came in this week's tour match, but Australia also have some menacing slow bowlers in their ranks.

Ash Gardner has enjoyed her recent ODI visits to North Sydney Oval, claiming 3-30 against Pakistan in 2023 and 2-31 against South Africa last year.

She looks overpriced to pick up at least two wickets in the first ODI given that her last home 50-over outing yielded figures of 5-30 in 10 overs against India in December.

Gardner's victims in Perth included the well-set Smriti Mandhana, who was bowled for 105, and she also pocketed eight wickets in three ODIs on the tour of Bangladesh in March 2024.
