Australia v India fourth Test: Prediction, Tips and Odds

It is 1-1 in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test series between Australia and India after rain brought a premature end to the third Test at the Gabba.

The most recent match of the series was a frustrating one for Australia, who established a first innings lead of 185 thanks to their total of 445.

In a manic second innings, they raced to 89-7 before declaring to try and force a result but India only reached the third over before bad light stopped play and rain then meant the end of the Test.

But there is no time to dwell on that result as both teams head to Melbourne for the fourth match of the series with a crowd close to 90,000 expected for the first day of the Boxing Day Test.

Australia v India fourth Test betting tips and predictions

Australia to win - 8/13

Despite their frustrations in Brisbane last time out, Australia can draw plenty of positives from the third Test of the series.

They were dominant in the first innings and, while the draw always looked a possibility given just over 131 overs were bowled in the first three days, Australia were the more likely side to win the match.

The hosts have looked like the better team in this series since the second Test and they can benefit from a huge crowd expected at Melbourne for the Boxing Day Test.

The Aussies have won four of their last five matches at the MCG and sit a spot above India in the rankings for the World Test Championship, so at 8/13, they look a decent pick to win the fourth Test.

Jasprit Bumrah top 1st innings bowler - 3/1

Given that the MCG curator Matt Page has confirmed there will be more grass on the pitch at the famed venue, conditions are likely to benefit seamers more than spinners in Melbourne.

For that reason, Jasprit Bumrah is worth considering at 3/1 to be the match's top wicket-taker in the first innings.

Australia are the best bet to win the match but Bumrah has been a standout bowler in this series so far.

The India paceman has collected 20 wickets across the first three Tests in the series and claimed six scalps when his team played in Melbourne on Boxing Day back in 2020.

Having also racked up 10 wickets against New Zealand in Pune back in October, Bumrah is in terrific form in the format and is a worthy favourite in this market.

Travis Head to be Player of the Match - 15/2

While Bumrah should do the damage with the ball, Australia's Travis Head is the man to keep an eye on at the crease.

Head opted out of an optional Australia training session on Monday, but given he had an issue with his quad in the last Test, it is no surprise he is taking the extra rest.

If he is able to emulate what he has done already in this series in the Boxing Day Test, he is a great pick at 15/2 to be the player of the match.

Head has already scored back-to-back first innings centuries in Adelaide and Perth in this series, in which he has scored a total of 409 runs at an average of 81.2.

He was named player of the match in Australia's victory in the second Test and is in great form to repeat the feat in Melbourne.
