Australia v India fifth Test: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Australia clinched a thrilling victory against India in the fourth Test in Melbourne so Pat Cummins' men will take a 2-1 lead into the series finale in Sydney.

Draw - 10/3

Australia's bowlers sealed victory in the Boxing Day Test in dramatic fashion, taking seven Indian wickets in the final session on day five in Melbourne.

Captain Pat Cummins and fellow fast bowler Scott Boland picked up three second-innings wickets apiece to wrap up a 184-run win and establish a 2-1 lead in the five-match series.

The fifth and final Test takes place in Sydney, where India must win to claim a share of the spoils. The tourists made the perfect start to the tour, winning the first Test in Perth by 295 runs, but they were blown away by 10 wickets in the day-night clash in Adelaide.

Australia dominated the third Test, which ended in a rain-affected draw in Brisbane, and the fourth game appeared to be heading for another stalemate before India's final-day collapse.

There will be some weary bowlers on both sides in Sydney and, with showers forecast, the draw looks a big price in the fifth Test.

Six of the last 10 SCG Tests have failed to produce a winner and India's last three visits, in 2015, 2019 and 2021, all ended in draws.

Paceman Jasprit Bumrah has been sensational for the tourists, picking up 30 wickets at an average of 12.83 in the first four Tests.

But the rest of the India attack has had limited success and Australia's senior batsmen have superb Test records in Sydney.

Steve Smith averages 70.6 at the venue, Marnus Labuschagne 81.55 and opener Usman Khawaja 104 so the Aussies may be capable of batting India out of the game – and the series.

Sam Konstas to hit most sixes in Australia first innings - 5/1

New Australia opener Sam Konstas enjoyed a remarkable Test debut in Melbourne, bringing out an array of audacious T20-style shots on the first morning.

Konstas rode his luck early on against Bumrah but played some majestic strokes on his way to 60 off just 65 balls on Boxing Day.

He hit Bumrah, the world's best fast bowler, for two sixes – one of them a reverse scoop and one launched over the long-on boundary – and may continue to play in a similar style at his home ground in Sydney.

Konstas is worth a bet to hit the most sixes in Australia's first innings, having warmed up for his Test debut with a blistering 56 off 27 balls for Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash.

Marnus Labuschagne over 66.5 performance points - 5/6

Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith came into this series under pressure but both have delivered crucial runs.

Labuschagne's series started with a painful innings of two off 52 balls in Perth but he made 64 against the pink ball in Adelaide and struck 72 and 70 in the Boxing Day Test.

He loves batting at the SCG, where he scored 91 and 73 against India in the 2020/21 series, and can amass at least 67 performance points in the fifth Test.

One point is awarded per run, 10 per catch and 20 per wicket and Labuschagne's last three Test scores in Sydney were 79 against South Africa and 60 and 62 not out against Pakistan.
