Each team plays 14 matches in total and each match is contested over four days. Counties play seven home games and seven away games.

16 points are awarded for a win, eight for a tie and five points for a draw.

However, teams can also earn batting and bowling points based on their performance in the first 110 overs in the first innings of each match.

A maximum of five batting points is available for a score of 450+ runs, while up to three bowling bonus points can also be picked up for taking nine or 10 wickets.
