It's been nearly three years since we last saw Conor McGregor in the Octagon, with fans clamouring to see the Notorious make a return.
While fans weren't expecting to wait much longer, McGregor has had to pull out of his planned UFC 303 fight with Michael Chandler due to injury.
Going back to 2016, after his duo of fights with Nate Diaz, McGregor beat Eddie Alvarez to become the UFC’s first simultaneous two-weight champion.
McGregor’s MMA career went on hiatus when he stepped into the boxing ring for an exhibition with Floyd Mayweather before returning a year later for the biggest fight in UFC history against Khabib Nurmagomedov.
The resounding defeat to Nurmagomedov saw McGregor take another break from the Octagon, beating Donald Cerrone 15 months later inside the first minute.
12 months later, McGregor would fight Dustin Poirier, losing in the second round, before the rematch that July marking the first time since 2016 that McGregor had fought twice in a year. McGregor lost the rematch – actually the third fight between the pair – owing to a broken leg sustained at the end of the first round.
Dana White confirmed after UFC 300 that Conor's McGregor's next opponent would be Michael Chandler at UFC 303, though a new date will need to be found after McGregor pulled out through injury.
After losing to Poirier via doctor stoppage due to breaking his leg at the end of the first round, McGregor has pursued other avenues. His recovery saw him spend around a year out of action before spending more time on his business ventures.
With McGregor keeping himself in shape, fans were hopeful the Notorious would headline UFC 300, but the Irishman wouldn’t have been in the USADA testing pool long enough to be able to make the April card.
McGregor was set to face Chandler on 29th June at UFC 303, as confirmed by Dana White after UFC 300, but the fight will now be rescheduled for a date later in the year still to be confirmed.
