Conor Benn touches down in New York as Brit eyes up explosive Ryan Garcia fight

Conor Benn has touched down in New York as the British fighter eyes up American sensation Ryan Garcia as a potential next opponent if Chris Eubank Jr rematch fails to materialise.

Benn suffered a tight unanimous decision to defeat against Eubank Jr last weekend and is believed to be weighing up his options for his future in the squared circle.

Whilst a second showdown with Eubank Jr remains in the offering for later this summer, the fighter is believed to want to take some time before committing to a lucrative rematch with his long-term adversary.

Trainer Tony Sims recently suggested that a move back down to welterweight in pursuit of a world title could be the most sensible option for the 28-year-old, despite Benn himself saying he would love to avenge his first professional loss.

But, in a further twist to the tale, Benn has now made the 5,000 mile trans-Atlantic journey to the Big Apple to take in this weekend's stacked Time Square card, in which Garcia is featuring in.

The Californian is set to make his boxing return against Rolando Romero in the early hours of Saturday morning, 12 months after his explosive victory over foe Devin Haney was declared a no contest after testing positive for a banned substance.

"I’m flying out to New York tomorrow to see 'Queen Ryan," Benn, who clashed with Garcia during a glitzy Ring Magazine red carpet ceremony earlier this year, told iFL TV.

So we will see… I believe he’s campaigning at 147lbs, he’s got the WBA title fight if he wins this fight, so no problem, I’d happily fight him for the WBA world title for sure.

Speaking to SunSport, Garcia revealed he would have no hesitation in tackling Benn next if the Matchroom man was to walk away from a second crack at Eubank Jr.

"I wouldn't mind fighting Conor Benn, that would be a lovely fight for me," he said.

"Obviously he had a war with Chris Eubank Jr, but I don't know if they're gonna do a rematch, but if it makes sense to my team and everybody else, let's run it. We can do it."

Reports have suggested that Riyadh Season boxing chief Turki Alalshikh has already booked the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for Eubank Jr v Benn 2 in September, although his promoter, Eddie Hearn, says that there's no guarantee a second showdown will happen.

"I think they served you up one of the greatest fights we've ever seen in this country," he told DAZN. "But for me, the danger was not for Chris Eubank Jr, the danger was for Conor Benn.

"That's why we have got to think very carefully about the rematch, because I don't want to see too many fights like that.

"It's all very well us sitting here and going, 'Wow! What a fight! Let's do it again,' they're the kind of fights that will shorten your career, and he's got such a long career ahead of him.."
