Cole Palmer PFA Player of the Year odds: Chelsea star 16/1 for award after four goals against Everton

Cole Palmer is in to 16/1 to win the PFA Player of the Year after netting four goals in Chelsea's 6-0 rout of Everton at Stamford Bridge.

Palmer's four-goal masterclass against the Toffees took his Premier League tally to 20 for the season, drawing the Englishman level with former teammate Erling Haaland in the race for the Golden Boot.

The attacking midfielder became the first Chelsea player ever to score in seven successive Premier League matches at Stamford Bridge in the Blues' hammering of Sean Dyche's side, also breaking the record for the Blues' fastest hat-trick recorded in England's top flight after netting three inside 29 minutes.

Palmer's total of nine Premier League assists this season is also just one off the pace at the top of the division's standings behind Brighton's Pascal Gross, Newcastle's Kieran Trippier and Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins.

The Manchester City academy graduate's exploits against Everton means he has now moved level with Villa hitman Ollie Watkins for Premier League goal involvements in 2023/24, with 20 goals and nine assists taking him to 29 in total.

So impressive are these numbers that Palmer's case to be considered for the PFA Player of the Year award is becoming increasingly emboldened, with the 21-year-old surely already destined for the Young Player of the Year prize.

bet365's Steve Freeth said: "We're all waiting to see where the ceiling is for Palmer after saving Chelsea's season with some outstanding displays and those bet365 customers who have backed him at 250/1 and all rates down to finish as the Premier League's Top Goalscorer will be hoping he can continue this rich vein of form in front of goal.

"We're now also seeing support for him to win the Ballon d'Or with, his odds shortening from 250/1 into 100/1. We might have to take more evasive action if he takes his shooting boots to Germany this summer."

PFA Player of the Year odds

Eyebrows were raised when Chelsea parted with £42m to bring Palmer to Stamford Bridge from Man City after just 19 Premier League appearances for Pep Guardiola's side last summer, but the Mancunian has proceeded to make a mockery of this price tag in a sensational maiden season in West London.

Typically deployed on Chelsea's right flank, Palmer has also featured in a number 10 position for the Blues this term with Mauricio Pochettino seemingly keen to build this youthful Blues around the former City youngster.

Full of composure and confidence on the ball, the Englishman has also proved devastating from the penalty spot for Chelsea this season with nine of his 20 Premier League goals coming from 12 yards.

Already a leading figure in this Chelsea team under Pochettino, Palmer will now have his mind set on forging his way into the international reckoning with Gareth Southgate's England ahead of this summer's Euros having received just two caps for his country to date.
