Club after summer transfer window odds: Betting suspended on Alexis Mac Allister to Liverpool

One of the players of the season, Alexis Mac Allister looks set to leave Brighton in the summer with a move to Liverpool imminent.

With interest in the World Cup winner increasing as the season drew to a close, the prospect of Mac Allister remaining at the Amex grew more and more unlikely, and Liverpool are now set to sign the Argentine.

The Seagulls have shown they're no pushovers in the transfer market when it comes to retaining their players, or at least getting what they perceive to be a fair price, but Liverpool appear to have successfully negotiated a deal with player and club.

Marc Cucurella was forced to hand in a transfer request amid interest from Manchester City last summer, with Chelsea eventually signing the full-back for around £60m.

They held off strong interest from Leeds United after Ben White's loan spell there, with the defender joining Arsenal the following season for around £50m. Yves Bissouma commanded a £30m fee from Tottenham, and Moises Caicedo remains on the south coast despite strong interest from Arsenal in January.

Fabrizio Romano reported on Twitter that Mac Allister will '100% leave Brighton' in the summer, and with Liverpool out of the race to sign Jude Bellingham, players like Mac Allister became bigger targets.

A hard-worker and an incisive passer, clearly at ease in a possession-based team, Mac Allister ticks a lot of boxes for Jurgen Klopp, and the German desperately needs reinforcements in midfield, even if Mac Allister is better deployed as a number 10, with the 24-year-old more likely deployed as an 8 in a midfield three at Anfield.

His versatility means he's comfortable cutting in from the left, though with Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo and even Darwin Nunez, he'd be unlikely to get much playing time on the wing, but he can also play deeper in a midfield two, which could be particularly useful given the injury woes Liverpool have had this season.
