Manchester City have confirmed the signing of Argentine attacking midfielder Claudio Echeverri.
With the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan and Bernardo Silva potentially nearing the end of their Man City career, the Citizens have added the highly rated Echeverri to their ranks.
Here is everything you need to know about new Manchester City signing Claudio Echeverri.
Born on 2nd January 2006, Claudio Echeverri is 19 years old.
Echeverri was born in Resistencia, Argentina and has represented his nation at youth level.
The attacking midfielder joined Man City on a four-and-a-half-year contract for a fee of around £12.5m plus add-ons.
The Citizens agreed a deal to bring Echeverri to the Etihad in January 2024, but thought his progress would be best served at River Plate until January 2025.
Claudio Echeverri primarily plays as an attacking midfielder but is capable of playing in a left midfield role, where he likes to cut inside onto his stronger right foot.
Echeverri is 5ft 7ins and of a lean build.
Claudio Echeverri is predominantly right-footed, but is competent on his weaker left foot.
Echeverri is an extremely gifted footballer with exceptional close control, rarely giving opposition defenders a chance to dispossess him.
While his physical attributes don't necessarily stand out, he makes up for this with his impressive awareness and ability to make decisions instinctively.
His low centre of gravity makes him a fantastic dribbler, whether that be in central areas trying to progress his team further up the pitch, or in one-v-one scenarios where he is tasked with beating his man.
Perhaps the biggest compliment you can pay Echeverri is that he has received many comparisons to a young Lionel Messi.
Whether this is simply down to the pair sharing the same nationality or not, it's a flattering remark that will not go unnoticed as the Argentine gets set to brace the Premier League.
Echeverri started his career with Argentine side Deportivo Lujan, before trialling with River Plate at the end of 2016, going on to officially sign for the club the the following year.
Following a move to River Plate, the attacking midfielder spent six years playing in the youth setup between 2017 and 2023.
He made his River Plate debut on 22nd June 2023 against Instituto, providing an assist in a 3-1 victory.
Officially signing for Manchester City in January 2024, the Argentine was loaned back to River Plate to continue his development.
Echeverri is yet to make a senior cap for Argentina, though his current trajectory suggests his debut could come sooner rather than later.
He has, however, represented his nation at youth level, playing for Argentina's U17s, U20s and U23s.
Man City's ageing squad has proved damaging in the 2024/25 campaign, and the Citizens could be set to lose a number of big names in the summer transfer window, including Kevin De Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan and Bernardo Silva.
Echeverri could help restore some energy into a midfield that has been lacklustre to say the least, as well as adding technical qualities that are required to play in a Pep Guardiola side.
While he can't be expected to make an instant impact for Man City due to the physical demands of the league, don't be surprised to see him integrated into Guardiola's starting XI in the coming years.
