14 are set to jump for the Group 1 City Of York Stakes on the final day of the Ebor Festival.
There are no less than six previous top-level winners in Saturday's seven furlong contest that precedes the feature £500,000 Ebor Handicap.
A race that hasn't been short on quality in recent years, this is the second time it will be ran as a Group 1 after being awarded upgraded status in 2025. Never So Brave defeated Lake Forest in that renewal and the runner-up is back to avenge his loss.
Last year's second has cut a far more consistent figure since undergoing a gelding operation in December, winning the Lennox Stakes last month before failing in an attempt to land an audacious Goodwood double in the Sussex Stakes just one day later.
Although he was soundly put away that day, it is likely that a bit less will be required to come out on top in this particular contest.
The only one in the field that has proven that he is capable of a real top drawer performance in here is Godolphin's superstar colt Notable Speech. His three-year-old career saw him land the 2,000 Guineas and Sussex Stakes, backing that up with further Group 1 success in the Breeders' Cup Mile and Lockinge Stakes.
At his best, there aren't many that in the world that would get the better of him, however, the drop back down to seven is a small doubt.
If there is going to be a day where Zavateri doubles his Group 1 tally, then it might be here. He won the National Stakes on yielding ground last September and there was plenty of encouragement to take from his fifth in the Sussex.
