Eddie Hearn has revealed that an official announcement for the hugely-anticipated rematch between Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn could be made before the end of the week.

Discussions regarding a re-run of the April classic have been going on for weeks, with both fighters having already inked agreements to face each other for a second time.

It's believed that confirmation of the exact date has been delayed with Matchroom, BOXXER and Riyadh Season awaiting confirmation of the Premier League schedule before finalising their plans.

An initially proposed, the September 27 date is now all but ruled out given Tottenham Hotspur are set to play Wolverhampton Wanderers in the capital that day.

Spurs' home ground played host to the first fight between the two domestic rivals and despite Wembley Stadium being mentioned as a possible venue for the rematch, the expectation is that the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will once again be given the green light to stage the sequel.

That means that both September 20 and October 4 have come into play, given Thomas Frank's side are set to travel to Brighton & Hove Albion and Leeds United on those dates.

Speaking to BoxingScene this week, Matchroom promoter Hearn - who also manages Benn - hinted at an imminent announcement.

We're getting closer now - I think it will be September 20 or October 4, they are the dates that we are working towards.

"It's down to Turki Alalshikh and the Saudis now, but September 20 is 10 weeks on Saturday, so it's almost time to return to camp."

Eubank Jr, of course, reigned supreme in the first fight, edging a pulsating showdown on all three of the official ringside judges scorecards.

The showdown, which took place at middleweight, saw Benn jump up two weight classes to take on his nemesis, producing an admirable showing despite falling just short in his quest for glory.

Weight restrictions for the rematch will once again be a particularly hot topic, especially given Eubank Jr failed to make the 160lbs middleweight limit by half an ounce, incurring a £375,000 fine just 24 hours before the first fight.

The Brighton man has subsequently been investigated by the British Boxing Board of Control for the prohibited use of a sauna to cut weight.

It's expected that the same stipulations will remain in place for the rematch too.
